reprinted from the Humboldt Union, Thursday, October 3, 1912 Simeon Beauford Willhite, born January 13th, 1832; passed away October 1st, 1912. Funeral services will be held at the residence three miles north of Humboldt Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

reprinted from the Humboldt Union, Thursday, October 3, 1912 Miss Mayme Fisher and Mr. Ferd Chitwood were married in Kansas City this week. Miss Mayme has many friends in Humboldt where she grew to womanhood. She held a position for several years as saleslady at the O.C. Brett store and went to Kansas City last springs to accept a like position with Emery Bird Thayer Dry Goods Co. Mr. Chitwood lived here a good many years ago and will be remembered by many of the young people. He is employed as street railway conductor in Kansas City, where the happy couple will make their home.

Trecy Mitchell Obituary – La Harpe Newspaper, KS MRS J. G. MITCHELL DIED YESTERDAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS. LAHARPE, Sept 24 Mrs. J. G. Mitchell, died yesterday at 11:00. The cause of death was stomach trouble. She was sixty-nine years old. She is survived by her husband, and five daughters, Mrs. S. E. McGinnis, and Mrs. Stella Lineback, both of LaHarpe; Mrs. Lena Ketchum, of Bartlesville; Mrs. Nana Hoddy, of Collinsville, and Mrs. Mary Dye, of Whitewater, KS. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the residence and interment was in Moran cemetery.

Newspaper unknown. A.J. Servey was born in Clarion County, PA August 31, 1841. From there the family moved to Brinkerton, PA when the son was eleven years old. Later they lived in Shannondale and by the time A.J. was seventeen they were living in Venango County, where he worked in the oil fields until the Civil War broke out. He enlisted as a member of the 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company I, on July 22, 1861 for a period of three years as a bugler. "The protection surrounding that position, however, was distasteful to him and he threw his bugle away, perferring the greater danger of real fighting." At the end of his three-year period he re-enlisted for the remainder of the war. In 1862 he was promoted to Corporal. In the fall of the same year he became Sergeant and later in the same fall he was made Lieutenant and was transfered to Company G, He refused the change of company and remained with the company which he had been fighting all through the war. The principal battles in which Mr. Servey took Part were the Battle of Middleburg, MO., Antietum, Fredericksberg, the seven days before Richmond, Gettysburg and Cold Harbor. In speaking of the Battle of Antietam, Captain Servey was ofter heard to say that if there had been any sort of general they could have "licked half the army". In the battle of Gettysburg the company of which he was a member reached there on the first day and Lieutenant Servey was detailed upon Pleasanton's Staff. During the month of August, 1864 Mr. Servey took part in fourteen engagements including that at Rheims Station, besides helping to tear up the Weldon railroad from Petersburg to Beldon, and seventy-five miles of the Boydtown plank road. He was within two miles of Appomatox courthouse at the time of the surren der. He was discharged and mustered out of the service on July 1, 1865, with the rank of Lieutenant in command of his company. As soon as he was free to do so he returned to his old home in Pennsylvania, where on November 4, 1865,he was married to Sarah Adeline Weikal. To them eight children were born six boys and two girls.Two of the boys Alender and Ralph were killed in a cy clone that swept the country west of Iola, KS in the summer of 1884. Others who survive are: Mrs. C.L. Barnhart, of Independence, Oregon, who cannot be here for the funeral; L.W. Servey, Ocheieta, Okla, A.B. Servey of Minneapolis, Minn, Mrs. B.L. McNeil, Frank M. Servey, and Dan J. Servey, all of Iola, The mother of the family died here on December 5, 1907. In August,1909, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Lilly Munger, who survives her. Mr. & Mrs. Servey came to Kansas from Pennsylvania in April of 1868. The entire trip from Pittsburg, PA to Kansas City, then called Westport Landing, was made by water, and required nineteen days to complete. From Kansas City they drove overland to Lawrence and then to Humboldt, where they located on a homestead three miles west and one and a quarter south of Iola. They remained there for three years when the grasshopper invasion of Kansas, from 1872-1875, when they moved to Iola, which has ever since been the family home. Note - According to the Allen Co. Cemetery Book, Lt. A.J. Servey was born on 31-Aug-1841 and died on 25-Sep-1916 and is buried in the Iola Cemetery.

John G. Mitchell Obituary – LaHarpe Newspaper 1917 John G. Mitchell, 77 years of age died here Tuesday night at his home. Funeral services were held at the Christian church and burial was in the Moran cemetery. Mr. Mitchell is survived by five daughters. Mrs. A. R. Dye, of Wichita, Mrs. N. Ketchum, of Sand Springs, Okla., Mrs. S. E. McGinnis, Mrs. Earl Hoddy, of Sand Springs and Mrs. Stella Lineback. Rev. Osborne, of the Christian church had charge of the funeral.

Reprinted with permission from the Humboldt Union, November 1, 1917. Obituary Andrew Martin Beeman was born near Bristol, Ontario county, New York, March 8, 1833. He died, October 19, 1917, at his home six miles southeast of Humboldt. His age at the time of his death was 84 years, 7 months and 11 days. His death was not unexpected, as he had been poorly most of the time for nearly two years. He was up about the house on the day previous to his death. He was conscious to the last and his suffering was not great. He passed peacefully to rest at 2:15 a.m., Friday. Mr. Beeman was the only boy of a family of three children. He lived with his father until 12 years of age when he began to make his own way in the world, living a good part of the time among strangers. His education was gained with great difficulty. He learned the gunsmith trade and was quite active in the manufacture of rifles during the Civil War. After the war, he took up farming. He was united in marriage to Lydia Ann Pomeroy, March 18, 1867. They started west immediately and spent the first summer of their married life in Missouri. The moved to Humboldt in November of the same year, and in December homesteaded the place where the remainder of his life was spent, nearly fifty years. He erected a little cabin on Christmas Day, 1867. At this place their seven children were born, who were Emily U., Edwin A., Charles W., Mary E., John S., Martin O., and Milton B., who died at the age of 8 years, 1 month and 21 days. The devotion of Mr. Beeman and his wife the past two years has been almost pathetic. Many times he assured the children when they were about to take their leave after a visit, "Don't worry about me. Ma takes the best care of me possible. She never lets me want for anything." The family have lost a loving father and a kind husband, the community a loyal citizen. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. H. Davis of the Presbyterian church of Humboldt, at the Maple Grove M. E. church, and burial was in the Maple Grove cemetery. The esteem in which he was held was plainly shown by the large number of friends who followed his remains to the last resting place. Card of Thanks We wish to express our sincere thanks to all who in any way assisted in the care of our beloved husband and father during the past two years of his suffering. For the kind words of sympathy and floral offerings. To the choir for the songs, to the A. H. T. A. lodge, to Rev. Davis for his excellent sermon, and we will not forget the central girl who answered the telephone so promptly when so many long distance messages had to be sent. - Mrs. A.M. Taken from the Iola Register, 10/25/1917. Death of James Russell James Russell passed away at Excelsior Springs, Mo., Monday, where he had sought for several weeks to regain his health and strength. Mr. Russell was a brother-in-law of Mr. G.M. Reynolds and Mrs. Robert Foster of this city. The body was brought here, Tuesday, and the funeral services are being heald at the Leanna church this afternoon. Burial will be in the Leanna cemetery.
