Evans 1920-2006 Funeral services for Margaret M. Evans, 86, Kincaid, were Monday, February 6, 2006, at Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church with Rev. Lloyd Houk officiating. Interment was in Kincaid Cemetery. Mrs. Evans died February 2 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Margaret E. Evans was born January 24, 1920, at Kincaid, the daughter of Ernest and Lucile (VanBuskirk) Booher. She was a lifetime resident of Kincaid. She enjoyed traveling and going to see her friends at the Kincaid and Iola coffee shops. Margaret was a homemaker. Margaret and Paul L. Evans were married September 24, 1938, at Selma. This union was blessed with two daughters. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1992. Mrs. Evans was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ernestine Elliott and Katherine Smethers; and her brothers, Mont Carter Booher and David Booher. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Leanna Brixey and her husband, Bill of Kincaid, and Loretta Sprague and her friend, Steve Wulterkens of Appleton, WI; her grandchildren, Donnie Brixey, Jeff Brixey, Jim Sprague, and Paula Ivester; and her great- grandchildren, Scarlett Brixey, Savannah Brixey, Raley Ivester, and Karissa Metko. Music was provided by Lloyd Houk. Musical selections included 'Amazing Grace' and 'How Great Thou Art'. "LeRoy Thompson 1915-2006 Funeral services for LeRoy Thompson, 90, Ottawa, were Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Thompson died Friday, February 3, at Village Manor Nursing Home. LeRoy Thompson was born October 28, 1915, in Wallace County, KS, the son of Ira Amos and Mabel Ann (Burruss) Thompson. When he was 10 years old, LeRoy moved with his family from Wallace County to Franklin County and lived there with the exception of six years in Montezuma, KS. He had lived in Ottawa since 1967. He graduated from Pomona High School. He worked for 30 years as a station engineer for City Service Gas Company, retiring in 1980. LeRoy served in the United States Army from February 18, 1941, until July 5, 1945, attaining the rank of T/5. As part of the Military Police, he participated in the New Guinea Campaign and received an AP Medal, one Battle Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and an American Defense Service Medal. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, both of Ottawa. LeRoy and Effie 'Juanita' Nicholson were married December 31, 1945, at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1989. He married Dorothy Stottlemire on July 9, 1992, at Ottawa. She also preceded him in death. Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mabel Thompson; his sister, Carol Virginia Thompson; and his grandson, Michael Thompson. LeRoy is survived by his sons, David Thompson of Celina, TX, Doug Thompson of Ottawa; and Danny Thompson of Princeton; his daughters, Carol Troutman of Osawatomie and Donna Miller of Ottawa; his brothers, Carl Thompson of Princeton and Lawrence Thompson of Wichita; his sisters, Fern Johnson and Bertha Morgan, both of Ottawa, and Maxine Peed of Williamsburg; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Circleville Cemetery. Mr. Bentley passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006, in Holton. Rocky was born July 6, 1957, in Burlington, KS, the son of Marvin Hilton and Adah Katherine Martin Bentley. His father passed away in 1960. Hs mother remarried in 1971 to James B. 'Jim' Smith. Rocky graduated from Holton High School in 1976. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He worked various construction jobs. He worked for Concrete Unlimited from 1989-2002. He married Laura Lea Smith on July 12, 1980 in Richmond, KS. She survives. Mr. Bentley was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Jim Smith and a step- brother Terry Smith. Rocky is also survived by his sons, PFC Jeremiah N. Bentley stationed in Iraq and Zachary T. Bentley of the home; his sisters, Linda Raaf and her husband Ralph of Holton, Barbara Jenson and her husband Jerry of Garnett; his step-sisters, Merry Burke and Sherry Zibell, both of Holton; and his step-brother, Gerry Smith of Klamath Falls, OR. Fields 1933-2006 Robert R. Fields, Roseburg, OR, died Monday, January 30, 2006, at a Eugene, OR hospital. Robert was born November 12, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Byrd and Ruth Fields. He worked for many years as a network engineer in telecommunications. Trenton is survived by his parents, Kim and Clark O'Bannon of Deepwater, MO. Surviving great-grandparents are Bud and Berniece White of Garnett and JoAnne White of Webster, TX. His maternal great- great-grandmother, Maxine Gordon of Garnett also survives. Interment was in Silver Lake Cemetery. Mrs. Davis died February 3 at St. Mary's Manor. Theresa Josephine Davis was born October 18, 1913, at Harris, the daughter of Steve and Rose (Nilges) Ferns. She had lived near Garnett before moving to Silver Lake in 1962. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Rossville, Silver Lake Senior Citizens, XYZ Club of Silver Lake, and Silver Lake Community Club. Theresa and John R. Davis were married November 28, 1932, at Emerald. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1979. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her sons, Robert E. Davis on May 7, 1987, and Fred M. Davis on August 25, 1998; her brother, Joe Ferns; and her sister, Mary Hix. Theresa is survived by her sons, Charles William 'Bill' Davis of Garnett, Don E. Davis of Silver Lake, and Randy D. Mrs. Ribeau died Tuesday, February 7, at Richmond HealthCare Center, Richmond, KS. Ione Elizabeth Ribeau was born March 12, 1919, at Osborne, KS, the daughter of John and Alice (Mardoch) Berger. She was a near lifelong resident of Pomona, moving to Ottawa in 1985. Ione was a homemaker and helped her husband with the work on their farm. Ione and Carl W. Ribeau were married on June 18, 1938, at Lawrence. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1970. Mrs. Ribeau was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Berger; her brothers, Merton Berger, Elvis Berger, and Gordon Berger; and her sisters, Hazel Wilson and Beverly Berger. Ione is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Hall of Nevada, MO, and Alice Miller of Pomona; her sons, Max Ribeau of Pomona and Russell Ribeau of Ottawa; her sisters, Melba Homewood of Luray, KS, and Weltha Adams of Mundelein, IL; and her brother, Clyde Berger of Lindsey, CA. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Parker. Mr. Rues died Sunday, February 5, at his daughter's home. Ralph John Anthony Rues was born September 1, 1927, at Greeley. He was the second of four children born to Joseph and Emma (Feuerborn) Rues. He grew up in Greeley and attended St. John Catholic School in Greeley. Ralph was united in marriage to Rosalie Smith on December 28, 1957. They became the parents of two daughters. They made their home in Kansas City, MO, for eight years and then lived in Shawnee and Merriam. They have made their home in Bonner Springs since October of 2005. Ralph was a carpenter for 55 years with Carpenters Local 714. His carpentry work began with building houses. He then went into commercial building and building water plants. Mr. Rues was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma Rues; and his brothers, Leonard and Raymond. Ralph is survived by his wife, Rosalie, of the home; his daughters, Peggy Brunson of Bonner Springs and Debbie Rues-Brummett of Shawnee; his sister, Mary Ann Winchell of Topeka; his grandchildren, Meagan Rose Brummett and Kimberley DeeAnna Brummett; and other relatives and friends. Casketbearers were Guy Martin Gentry, John Ward, Jim Byard, Cort Byard, Jerome Rues, Sonny Herman, and Bob Clearwater. The family suggests memorials to the Ralph Rues Memorial Fund. Maxine Scheckel was born August 9, 1921, at Linwood, KS, the daughter of Emmett and Mayme (Headrick) Culp. She graduated fro Linwood High School. Maxine and Ambrose Scheckel were married July 11, 1992, at Scipio. He survives of the home. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond. She was always a hard worker. Her family was her greatest joy. Mrs. Scheckel was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Colleen Soule; her brother, Robert Culp; and her sisters, Marie Landreth and Cecile Culp. Maxine is also survived by her son, Jerry Sharp of DeSoto; her daughter, Phyllis Romine of Los Gatos, CA; her sisters, Juanita Marshall of DeSoto and Reta Kurtz of Eudora; her grandchildren, Tracy Romine, Chad Romine, and Robin Romine; 11 step-children; three grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Mary Milner, organist, and Earl 'Butch' Rocker, vocalist. Musical selections included 'On Eagle's Wings', 'Be Not Afraid', 'Ave Maria', and 'On this Day, O Beautiful Mother'.
