Gilkey 1938-2006 Funeral services for Charles R. Gilkey, 67, Williamsburg, were Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Dengel and Son Mortuary. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo. Mr. Gilkey died Thursday, February 9, at Richmond HealthCare Center. Charles R. Gilkey was born June 24, 1928, at Muldrow, OK, the son of Joseph Virgil and Bessie Sarah Rebecca (Freeman) Gilkey. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965, serving in Korea, attaining the rank of Spec. 4. Charles earned his G.E.D. while serving in the military. He was a resident of Williamsburg for 28 years, moving there from Quenemo, where he had lived 20 years. He had also lived in Topeka and Lebo. Charles was a truck driver for Wolken Oil in Garnett and Ottawa from 1984 to the mid- 1990's. He was also a welder, ranch hand, and transport truck driver for Lybarger Oil in Garnett for eight years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Quenemo Baptist Church, former Mayor of Williamsburg, served on the Williamsburg City Council, and was City Marshal. Charles and Harriet N. Knight were married on April 28, 1961, at Harrisonville, MO. She survives of their home. Mr. Gilkey was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bessie Gilkey; his sisters, Sue Allen and Evelyn Gilkey; and his brother, Wiley Eugene Gilkey. Charles is also survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald R. and Jeannette Gilkey of Wellington and Doyle W. and Staci Gilkey of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, Meghan Gilkey, Remington Gilkey, Austin Gilkey, and Matthew Gilkey; his sister and brother-in-law, Earline and Randol Toole of Gideon, MO; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Ola Gilkey of Dexter, MO, Roy and Nola Gilkey of Gideon, MO, and James and Cecelia Gilkey of Byhalia, MS; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to Charles Gilkey Memorial Fund. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: "Winona (Dover) Daugherty 1915-2006 Funeral services for Winona (Dover) Daugherty were Monday, February 13, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rockey Ratts officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Daugherty died Thursday, February 10, at the Forum in Overland Park. Winona Daugherty was born November 4, 1915, at Vermillion, the daughter of Jesse C. and Wanda Ross (Cullens) Dover. While attending Garnett High School she assisted in the office of Dr. George Thornburg, an osteopathic physician. From January 2, 1934, through January 31, 1941, she was employed in the County Extension Office with Mr. J.A. Hendricks, County Extension Agent. She then accepted an appointment with the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. She was assigned to Marine Corps Headquarters effective February 4, 1941. After interim advancements, she was promoted to Personnel Assistant to the military as Head Enlisted Section, Separation and Retirements Branch in January 1950, where she remained until retirement. Winona was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Garnett; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; American Association of Retired Persons; Heart of America Carnival Glass Association; and Garnett Flower and Garden Club. Winona married Lewis Eskridge Daugherty on August 28, 1948, at Washington, D.C. She and Lewis returned to Garnett in October 1974. Mrs. Daugherty was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, on March 11, 1999; her parents, Jesse and Wanda Dover; her sister, Jessie Witt; and her brothers, Myron Dover, Dorman Dover, and Monte Dover. Winona is survived by her step-son, Frederick Lewis Daugherty and family of San Diego, CA; her sister, Pauline Johnson of Mission; her nieces, Lucia Johnson of Mission, Marcena Sherlock of Baldwin, and Dolores Chevalier of Houston, TX, and other nieces and nephews. Winona would want to be remembered for her loyalty to friends, her love and compassion for animals, and her love of flowers and beauty. Music was provided by Joyce Hardesty, organist, and Earl 'Butch' Rocker, vocalist. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art' and 'In The Garden'. Casketbearers were Fred Daugherty, Russell Lewis, Earl 'Butch' Rocker, Stuart Sherlock, Paul Smitheran, and Mike Wawrzewski. The family suggests memorials be made to Garnett First United Methodist Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements."
