Ahring, Sr. 1915-2006 Funeral services for Fred W. Ahring, Sr., 91, Garnett, were Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Ahring died Saturday, March 18, at Life Care Center of Burlington. Fred W. Ahring, Sr. was born March 1, 1915, at Culver, KS, the son of Louis H. and Dora (Gardner) Ahring. He grew up in the Culver area, moving to the Garnett area in 1938. He was a farmer, carpenter, and custom wheat harvester. He enjoyed coon hunting in his younger days. He always looked forward to seeing his many customers on the wheat harvest. Fred and his wife, Marjorie, helped many young people by giving them a job on the harvest crew. Fred and Marjorie Bartlett were married June 23, 1938, at Iola. This union was blessed with five children. Mr. Ahring was preceded in death by his sons, Bob Ahring on November 8, 2004, and Fred Ahring, Jr. on January 17, 2006; his granddaughter, Tracy Ahring on October 12, 1988; his parents, Louis and Dora Ahring; and his brother, Alvin Ahring. Fred is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Garnett; his son, Rick Ahring of Parker; his daughters, Janice Beeman and her husband Dick of San Diego, CA, and Bonnie Messenger of Wellsville; his daughters-in-law, Judy Ahring and Pam Ahring, both of Garnett; his sister, Avis Ahring of Wichita; eight grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Earl 'Butch' Rocker, vocalist. Musical selections included 'Go Rest High On That Mountain' and 'In The Garden'. Casketbearers were Randy Ahring, Travis Ahring, Dan Dick, Marlin Brubaker, Rex Lizer, Terry Messenger, and Chuck Wolken. Honorary casketbearers were Rick Ahring and Kenny Lankard.
