Minckley 1915-2006 Graveside services for Wilma L. Minckley of Colony will be held today, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Colony Cemetery with Pastor Steve Bubna officiating. Wilma L. Minckley died at Windsor Place in Iola Sunday, April 16, 2006. She was born in Galesburg, Kansas on April 22, 1915 to Fred and Anna (Hodgden) Fouts. She was married to Wilbur Minckley on February 14, 1940 in Iola. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sunshine Club and Colony Community Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Wayne Fouts; and a sister, Bernice Stiffler. Surviving are her husband, Wilbur of Iola; a son, Gary Minckley and his wife, Sharon of Colony; two sisters, Dorothy Davidson of Garnett and Joan Elliott of Independence, MO; a granddaughter, Brenda Cress of Brewster; a grandson, Wayne Minckley of Lane; and great grandsons, Devon, Dalton, and Dillon Minckley. A memorial fund has been set up at Colony Community Church." Delma Dorine Ware 1912-2006 Delma Dorine Ware, age 93, died at Lakepoint Nursing in El Dorado Friday, April 14, 2006. She was born in Centerville to John 'J.B.' Burton and Ethel (McCrabb) McMillin on September 5, 1912. Delma lived in Anderson and Linn Counties until moving to Franklin County in 1942 and Ottawa in 1955. She moved to Augusta in 2003. She attended schools in Linn and Anderson Counties and was a homemaker, as well as helping her husband, Earl, on their farm. She also worked as a cook at Crestview Nursing Home in Ottawa and AOOT Sorority Hall in Lawrence and was a dietary aide at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, retiring in 1974. Delma and her husband were avid members of the Good Sams camping club, traveling all over the U.S. She and Alfred 'Earl' Ware were married in Garnett on January 5, 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1992. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son, James Ware; brothers Dale and Caroll McMillin; a sister, Vera McMillin; and a son-in-law, Lloyd Hughes. Surviving her are a daughter, Roberta Hughes of Augusta; a son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Rosemary Ware of Auburn; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Ware of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Florence McMillin of Nevada, MO, and several cousins. Services were held at Dengel & Son Mortuary Tuesday with burial in Princeton Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Hope House in care of Dengel & Son." Page 5, Column 2: "Elinor Lucille Lacy 1915-2006 Services celebrating the life of Elinor Lucille Lacy, 90, Garnett, were Monday, April 17, 2006, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin and Rev. Rockey Ratts officiating. The eulogy was presented by Jill Stowe. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Lacy died Thursday, April 13, at Golden Heights Living Center where she had lived for the last eight years. Elinor Lucille Lacy was born May 31, 1915, at Cherryvale, the daughter of Harley Thomas and Sara Louise (Roseberry) Dack. She was educated in the public schools of Cherryvale, having graduated from Cherryvale High School with the Class of 1933. She was graduated from Baker University with the Class of 1937 with the degree of Bachelor of Music and English, specializing in the study of piano and pipe organ. Lucille was a member of the Greek sorority Alpha Chi Omega. As a college senior, she was elected into the Organists Guild of America, a national organization. She spent 35 years teaching music and English in the public schools of McLouth, Welda, and Garnett. She taught music and piano at Baker during World War II. She retired from the teaching profession in the spring of 1977. Lucille was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and through the years served as pianist, organist, and choir director. She was also a faithful member of Magdalene Circle. She was a member of Searchlight Club, the Garnett Ladies' Bowling Association for 20 years, National Education Association, Kansas National Education Association, and was a charter member of Garnett Branch American Association of University Women. Lucille and Howard George Lacy were married November 1, 1942, at Cherryvale. To this union were born two beloved daughters, Nancy Kaye Horn and Julie Anne Burness. Howard preceded her in death on February 15, 1982. Mrs. Lacy was also preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Louise Dack; and her sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Don Lidikay. Lucille is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Rick Horn of Garnett and Julie and Stu Burness of Corrales, NM; her grandchildren, Bill Horn of Osage City, Matt Horn of Overland Park, Eric Burness and his wife Taylor of Phoenix, AZ, and Jill Stowe and her husband Keith of Rougemont, NC; her great-grandchildren, Brilee Claire Horn, Gunner Gage Horn, Zachary Milton Stowe, and Braden Robert Burness; her nieces, Donna Kempin of Overland Park, Shari Layle and her husband, Dr. John Layle, of Shawnee Mission, and Lois Replogle of Great Bend, her nephew, Dr. Robert Lacy and his wife Jane of Topeka; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great- great-nephews. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Gary Stapp, soloist, who sang 'He Touched Me'. Other musical selections included 'Because He Lives' sung by a chorus of former students, and 'How Great Thou Art' as a congregational hymn. Casketbearers were Bill Horn, Matt Horn, Eric Burness, Keith Stowe, Don Stockton, Bob Hayden, and Jim North. Honorary casketbearers were her longtime friends, Mary Anderson, Pearl Howerton, LaVerne Cole, Joy Stanley, Mildred Velvick, Glennice Carter, Katherine Perkins, and Betty Tilton. The family suggests memorials be made to the Lucille Lacy Memorial Fund. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 3: "Florence Laura Fursman 1922-2006 Funeral services for Florence Laura Fursman, 83, Colony, were Monday, April 17, 2006, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola with Rev. Lloyd W. Houk officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. Fursman died Thursday, April 13, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care, Garnett. Florence Laura Fursman was born September 1, 1922, at Iola, the daughter of George and Florence (Zimmer) Hiser. She graduated from Iola High School, working as a bookkeeper at the Iola Laundry. She also set up a bookkeeping system at her father's business, Hiser Implement Company, and became the company's bookkeeper after graduation. During her youth, she was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, now Calvary United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as participating in youth group activities. She married John A. Fursman on May 18, 1947 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Iola. The couple moved to Colony where she attended and was active in various activities at Colony United Methodist Church, including serving as treasurer of the United Methodist Women for almost 27 years, helping with Vacation Bible School and serving as church pianist for many years. She began working for the United States Postal service as 'substitute for the substitute' and retired as Postmaster in 1988 after 33 years with all of her service at the Colony Post Office. During that time, she also served as Colony City Clerk and City Librarian. She was a member of the Y.S. Club, Kensington-Priscilla Club, Pleasant Worker's Extension Homemakers Unit, Forget-Me- Not Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Southeast Kansas Genealogy Society; served on the Anderson County Extension Council; and also assisted through the years with her children's many school and extracurricular activities. She is survived by her husband, John A. Fursman of the home, Susan Dieboldt and husband Donald of Iola; John A. Fursman III and his wife Jacqueline of Garnett, Nancy J. Abernathy and her husband Michael of Orlando, Florida, Roxanne E. Dawson and her husband Charles of Great Bend, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her brother Wayne Hiser and wife Oleta of Iola, and her sister Marjorie Mentzer and husband Bill of Iola. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Dieboldt; brothers George and Gerald Hiser; and a sister, Kathryn Regehr. A memorial for the Forget-Me-Not Club Scholarship Fund has been set up and can be left with the funeral home." "Lester F. Holderman 1918-2006 Lester F. Holderman, age 88, of Garnett, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2006. He was a lifelong area resident and had been a resident at Golden Heights. Services are pending at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett." Page 6, Column 2: "Saphronia Ross 1916-2006 Services for Saphronia Ross, age 89, formerly of Parker, were held Tuesday at Farris- Feuerborn Memorial Chapels, Inc. in Garnett with Pastor Gary Benjamin officiating. Burial was at Garnett Cemetery. She grew up in Harvey County, moving to the Parker area in the early 1950's. She enjoyed the outdoors, her pets and her cattle. She was married to Wilfred Ross in 1955 in Garnett, who preceded her in death on May 7, 1994. She was born in Harvey County on Mary 3, 1916 to Will and Lyda (Johnson) Fluke. She is survived by a nephew, Bill Ewert and wife Carla of Parker; a niece, Joyce Roberts and husband Doug of Richmond; two great nephews, Mike Roberts and Adam Ewert and wife Tanya; three great nieces, Thresea Smith and husband Travis, Cassie Hasty and husband Mike, and Libby Self and husband Brant; one great great nephew, Austin Ewert; and four great great nieces, Megan Smith, Autum Ewert, Claire Hasty and Harley Self A memorial fund is set up in her name at Midland Hospice." "Lucille Bennett 1921-2006 Services for Lucille Bennett, age 85, were held Tuesday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels in Garnett with burial in Richmond Cemetery in Richmond. Pastor Gary Benjamin will officiate. Lucille passed away Friday, April 14, 2006 in Overland Park Regional Hospital. Lucille Bennett was born on March 6, 1921 in Richmond to Mason Burbank and Allie Leota (Stockwell) McLees. She married Ellsworth Harold Bennett in Butler, MO on February 1, 1941. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1981. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Kenneth McLees and Gerald McLees; and a granddaughter, Laura Bennett. She is survived by four sons; Benny Bennett and wife Marilyn of Ottawa; Jim Bennett and wife Mary of Princeton; Bob Bennett and wife Charlene of Garnett; George Bennett and wife Marilyn of Garnett; a daughter, Marie Kay Cassity and her husband Bob of Hoisington; a brother, Gerald McLees of Portsmith, NH; a sister-in-law, Hattie McLees of Grandview, MO; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A memorial has been set up at the Garnett Senior Center." "Mikelle D. Stahl 1945-2006 Mikelle D. Stahl, age 61, of rural Colony died April 14, 2006 near Colony. She was born May 6, 1945 in Colony in the home she still lived in to Claude R. and Mary Jane (O'Dell) McGhee. She graduated from Colony High School in 1963 and later completed a course through Word of Faith Bible Institute. She lived most of her life in the area, moving back to the family farm in 1976. She has spent the last few years dedicated to the care of her mother. She was very active in the Northcott Church and loved her grandchildren and her horses. Services are today, April 19, at the Northcott Church near Colony at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Phil Honeycutt officiating and burial is at Logue Cemetery near LeRoy. She married William J. Stahl on November 2, 1963 in Nowata County, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Isaac Wilkinson. Surviving are her husband of Colony; a son, Justin Stahl of Colony; daughters Lisa Sherwood and husband Wesley of Colony, Shanna Bruner and husband Jay of Neosho Falls, Michelle Lash and husband Michael of Wichita; brothers Duane McGhee of Iola, Gerald McGhee of Colony, and Jack Ellis of Humboldt; sisters Roberta West of Colony, Sharon Voorhees of Wichita, Thelma Haley of Yuba City, CA, and Mona Tinsley of Springfield, MO; her mother of Colony and special friend Dian Prasko of Colony.
