Mrs. Ireland died Friday, April 21, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care. Bertha Maxine Ireland was born April 27, 1921, at Glen Elder, KS, the daughter of Edward and Sylvia (Dean) Jones. Maxine and Arthur D. Ireland were married January 14, 1936, at El Dorado. This union was blessed with one daughter, Elsie Faye. When Maxine was first married, she worked at Boeing in Wichita and lived in Plainview, KS. She moved to Neal and then to Bronson in 1952, moving to Garnett the last of 1966. She cooked at the Bronson School and Garnett High School, and at the Rocky Roost restaurant in Welda. Maxine was a 53- year member of Bronson Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Ireland was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sylvia Jones; her sister, Marie Sellars; her brothers, Raleigh, Paul, Clyde, Dean, Doyle, and Earl; and her son-in- law, Lawrence Weast. Maxine is survived by her husband of 70 years, Arthur D. Ireland of Garnett; her daughter, Elsie Faye Weast of Gas, KS; her brother, Virgil Jones of Bonner Springs; her grandsons, Wesley Cook of Ottawa, Bradley Cook of Iola, and Larry Weast of LaHarpe; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Casketbearers were Maxine's great-grandsons, Jeremy Cook, Dillon Cook, Billy Cook, Ethan Mustain, Cody Weast, and Casy Weast. The family suggests memorials be made to Bronson Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: "Tom Miller 1926-2006 Memorial services for Tom Miller, 79, rural Savonburg, were Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Society of Friends, Stark, KS, with pastor James Robinson officiating. Mr. Miller died Thursday, April 20, at Via Christi, St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Tom Miller was born October 4, 1926, at the family farm in rural Savonburg, the son of William and Nellie (Fackler) Miller. He grew up in the rural Savonburg and Stark areas, graduating from Grant High School in 1944. Tom was a farmer and had worked at the Stark elevator before working at Chanute Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Tom hosted the 3 p.m. Sunday services at his home, where he enjoyed his friends' company. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristy Miller in 1983; his parents, William and Nellie Miller; his brothers, Charlie and Willard Miller; and his sisters, Sarah Hereford and Rose Schenk. Tom is survived by his son, Tom Miller, Jr. of Chanute; his daughters, Kathy Saldna of Tempe, AZ, and Sandy LaCompt of Oklahoma City, OK; seven grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and his brothers, Don Miller of Kansas City, MO, and George Miller of Blythesville, AR. Music was provided by Alvena Ungler, pianist, and Charles Carlson, vocalist. Musical selections included 'In The Garden' and 'Beyond The Sunset', and 'I'll Fly Away' sung by the congregation. Erskine, 85, Garnett, are Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Lane Cemetery with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mr. Erskine died Monday, April 24, at Olathe Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to Anderson County Council on Aging- Transportation.
