April 26, 2006 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 10, No. 32 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 5, Column 2: "Mary Jane McGhee 1909-2006 Funeral services for Mary Jane McGhee, 96, rural Colony, were Saturday, April 22, 2006, at First Christian Church in Iola with Pastor Sharon Kay Voorhees officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. McGhee died Wednesday, April 19, at her home. Mary Jane McGhee was born October 14, 1909, at Raymond, KS, the daughter of William Edward and Lottie Jane (Lamons) O'Dell. She grew up in the LeRoy area where her father was a Methodist minister and she was one of six children. She earned her high school diploma, received a certificate of completion from the Word Of Faith Bible Institute, and continued to be a student throughout her life. On April 17, 1926, Mary married Claude Robert McGhee at Iola. They made their home in numerous communities in Kansas before purchasing their present farm west of Colony in 1939. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1974. She was an active member of the Northcott Church west of Colony where she was a 50- year board member, played the piano for many years, and taught Sunday School. She was also very active in community affairs, having worked on the Indian Creek school board and belonging to the Pleasant Workers E.H.U. and Loyal Neighbors Club at Colony. Mrs. McGhee was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mikell D. Stahl on April 14, 2006; her grandson, Staci Ryan Tinsley; her granddaughters, Anita Rae McGhee and Carol McGhee; her great-grandson, Isaac Wilkinson; and five siblings. Mary is survived by her sons, Duane McGhee and his wife Dorothy of Iola, Gareld McGhee and his wife Shirley of rural Colony, and Jack Ellis and his wife Marilyn of Humboldt; her daughters, Roberta West and her husband Robert of rural Colony, Thelma Haley and her husband, A.D. of Yuba City, CA, Sharon Kay Voorhees and her husband George of Wichita, Mona Tinsley and her husband Jerry of Springfield, MO, and Dian Prasko of Colony; her son-in-law, William J. Stahl of the home; her sister-in-law, Roberta O'Dell of Green Forest, AR; 34 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to Northcott Church, Bibles for China, or the Gideon. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 3: "Eugene F. 'Bud' Kratzberg 1935-2006 Funeral services for Eugene F. 'Bud' Kratzberg, 71, Garnett, were Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in St. John The Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Greeley. Mr. Kratzberg died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Olathe Medical Center. Eugene F. 'Bud' Kratzberg was born April 1, 1935, at Greeley, the son of August and Cecelia (Rosner) Kratzberg. He grew up in Greeley, graduating from Greeley High School in 1953. He lived in Kansas City, Lincoln, NE, and Youngstown, OH, before returning to Greeley in 1999 and then moving to Garnett in 2002. Bud was an over-the-road truck driver, and was retired from Boise Cascade and later from Yellow Freight. He was a member of Teamsters Local #407. He enjoyed camping, fishing, the Chiefs and the Royals. Bud married Nina Joann Robertson on January 31, 1955. Five children were born to this union. They later divorced. He married Loretta Moore. They later divorced. They both preceded him in death. Mr. Kratzberg was also preceded in death by his parents, August and Cecelia Kratzberg; his grandson, Eric Witt; and his brother, John Kratzberg. Bud is survived by his sons, Michael Kratzberg and his wife Ellen of Princeton and Jeffrey Kratzberg and his wife Debi of Garnett; his daughters, Kimberly Gabauer and her husband Thomas of Centerville and Lisa Mistry and her husband Pritesh of Garnett; his brother, Dave Kratzberg and his wife Arlene of Greeley; two step-daughters, Joy Moore and Carrie Moore of Jacksonville, FL; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Musical selections included 'When Angels Fly', 'See You On The Other Side', and 'Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox'. Casketbearers were Travis Alexander, Bob Kratzberg, Cody Kratzberg, Rick Kratzberg, Tom Kratzberg, and Waylon Kratzberg. Honorary casketbearers were Jacob Kratzberg, Lewis Kratzberg, Wyatt Gettler, and Maxwell McCain. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements."
