Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg. Mrs. Carter died Monday, May 1, at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza, Kansas City, MO. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the funeral home Saturday morning. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements." "Viola M. Driskel 1928-2006 Graveside services and interment for Viola M. Driskel, 78, Moran, were Monday, May 1, 2006, at LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe, KS, with Lloyd Houk officiating. Mrs. Driskel died April 26, at Moran Manor. Viola M. Driskel was born January 17, 1928, at Mound Valley, KS, the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Terhune) Peterson. She grew up in Mound Valley and graduated from Parsons High School. Viola and Ike J. Driskel were married August 23, 1954, at Oswego. This marriage was blessed with seven sons. Viola had lived in the Moran area since 1957. She was a homemaker. After raising her children, she worked for Berg Manufacturing in Iola for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Mrs. Driskel was preceded in death by her husband, Ike Driskel on June 13, 2003; her son, Glenn Driskel on February 24, 2006; her parents, Edward and Ruth Peterson; and her sisters, Frances Martin and Jo Venora Peterson. Viola is survived by her sons, Craig Driskel of Omaha, NE, Barry Driskel of Moran, David Driskel of Iola, Jeff Driskel of LaHarpe, Brian Driskel of Chanute, and Troy Driskel of Iola, nine grandchildren; one brother, Harold 'Pete' Peterson of Cherryvale; and one sister, Colleen Elliott of San Bernadino, CA. Page 5, Column 4: "Merry Douglas Scott Canavan 1913-2006 Graveside services and interment for Merry Douglas Scott Canavan, 92, York, PA, were Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Holy Angels Cemetery with Father Brian Klingele officiating. Mrs. Canavan passed away in her sleep on April 26 in York, PA, where she lived with her daughter and family. Merry Douglas Scott Canavan was born September 28, 1913, in Garnett. She attended Pittsburg State Teachers College, earning both a BS degree and MS degree in Education and English. She began her teaching career at age 16 in a one-room country school in Anderson County. She later taught in other Kansas schools including Prairie School in Prairie Village KS. She also taught in Maui, HI, and Naples, Italy. After moving to the Washington area in 1949, she became a teacher and principal in Prince George's County, retiring in 1977 from Montpelier Elementary School in Laurel, MD. Mrs. Canavan was a member of St. Camillus Catholic Church for over 40 years, serving several church activity groups. After retirement, she was involved in a variety of volunteer activities. She taught Religious Education at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring, MD, for 16 years. Her extensive volunteer work also included the Red Cross, Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C., Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Springs, MD, and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, where she earned a distinguished service award for more than 3,000 hours of service. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, DC, Chapter AA for more than 70 years. In 1949, Merry was united in marriage with Chief Warrant Officer William M. Canavan, USN in Maui, HI, and traveled with him during his Navy service. He preceded her in death in 1993. Mrs. Canavan is survived by her two children, Michael S. Canavan of Bowie, MD, and Laurel Ann Hardesty of York PA; her six grandchildren, Katie, Shaun, Matthew, and Elizabeth Hardesty and Kip and Patrick Canavan; her sisters, Mrs. Jean Warren of Winfield and Mrs. Jane Richards of Baldwin; and her brother, William A. Scott of Bakersfield, CA. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." "Mary E. Donaldson 1913-2006 Funeral services for Mary E.
