Mrs. Walsh died Wednesday, April 12, at her home surrounded by her family. Connie Jo Walsh was born December 16, 1947, at Westphalia, the daughter of Joseph and Hazel Schlick. She and Michael Walsh were married November 22, 1969, and they shared 36 loving years together. She retired from AT&T after 31 years of service in 1998. Connie was a kind, brave, strong, and warm-hearted person, always putting others before herself. She spent her life enjoying and caring for her family and friends. She particularly loved the time she spent with her grandsons. Connie is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; her daughter, Jennifer Nichols and her husband Gerald; her son, Steven Walsh and his wife Shanda; two handsome grandsons, Coby Walsh and Jonah Nichols; her loving sister, Leta Strom and her husband Steve of Lawrence; 15 nieces and nephews, several cousins, and many very dear friends. "Laura Lee Cubbison 1928-2006 Graveside services and interment for Laura Lee Cubbison, 77, Paola, were Saturday, April 29, 2006, at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Miss Cubbison died Wednesday, April 26, at Country Club Estates in Paola. Laura Lee Cubbison was born December 24, 1928, at Greeley, the youngest of 11 children born to John Guy and Viola Elizabeth (Richardson) Cubbison. She grew up in Greeley and Paola. She graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1946. She then attended Kansas City University where she received her Bachelor's degree and then her Master's degree in Music History in 1951. She moved to New York with plans to pursue a career in music. The need to earn a living took priority and she began doing clerical work. She began her career with World Book in the mid-1950's in New York. They transferred her to Wichita, Kansas City, and finally to Denver in 1965. She would establish new offices and manage them. She remained with World Book until her retirement. Her love of music was a big part of her life. She always supported the arts as much as she could. One of her last requests was for a satellite radio so she could listen to the operas. She enjoyed traveling, but most special were her trips to Greece. She returned to Paola in 2004 to be near family. Miss Cubbison was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Cubbison; and all of her brothers and sisters. Laura is survived by nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association. Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie, was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: "Ina F. Strickler 1922-2006 Funeral services for Ina F. Strickler, 83, Colony, were Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Colony Christian Church with Rev. Mark McCoy and Rev. Steve Bubna officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. Strickler died Tuesday, April 25, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. Ina F. Strickler was born October 10, 1922, at Colony, the daughter of Ernst D. and Nelle M. (Hoffmeier) Yokum. The family moved to Iola in 1939 but she finished high school in Colony, graduating in 1940. She attended Iola Junior College. Ina and Rollin D. Strickler were married on November 28, 1943. They lived and farmed in the Colony area until finally moving into Colony 18 years ago. She was a member of the Colony Christian Church, Jolly Dozen Club, and the Sew and So Club. Mrs. Strickler was preceded in death by her brother, Dale. Ina is survived by her husband, Rollin, of the home; her sons, Eldon Strickler and his companion Cheryl of Colony and Duane Strickler and his wife Gale of Brighton, CO; her daughter, Janet Hermreck and her husband Glen of Colony; her brother, Harold Yokum and his wife Betty of Iola; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Schroeder 1954-2006 Funeral services for Cathy I. Schroeder, 51, Cushing, OK, formerly of Colony, were Monday, May 1, 2006, at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. Schroeder died Thursday, April 27, at her home. Cathy I. Schroeder was born December 2, 1954, at Topeka. She grew up at Knob Noster, MO, Colony, and Topeka. She traveled with her parents in the Air Force. Cathy married Leroy Schroeder on May 12, 1979, at Lebo. She worked for Wonder Bread as a delivery driver from 1984 to 1989. She moved from Colony to Cushing in 1993. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed crocheting and playing bingo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Schroeder is survived by her husband, Leroy, of the home; her sons, Vincent Schroeder and his wife Martha of Harrisonville, MO, Chad Schroeder of Cushing, OK, Jedadiah Schroeder and his wife Tia of Winsor, MO, and Adam Schroeder of Stillwater, OK; her daughters, Tabitha Schroeder of Stillwater, OK, and Teri Schroeder of Halstead; her sisters, Leona Russell and her husband Russ, Wyonna Creek and her husband Gary, and Dianna Franco and her husband, David; and her grandchildren, Amethyst Weinhoffer, Hailey Lacy, Montgomery Schroeder, Heather and McKenzie Schroeder, Lorlai Schroeder, Menda Schroeder, and Payton Schroeder. Erskine, 85, Garnett, were Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Lane Cemetery with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mr. Erskine died Monday, April 24, at Olathe Medical Center. William E. Erskine was born May 29, 1920, at Edgerton, the son of Earl G. and Edna (Bracken) Erskine. He grew up in Edgerton. William served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 in the European Theatre during World War II. Following the service, he lived in Sterling, KS, before moving to Paola and later moved to Osawatomie, where he lived most of his life and farmed. He retired to the Greeley area, moving to Garnett in 2002. William enjoyed his garden, striving to have the first tomatoes and green onions. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy. Mr. Erskine was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Edna Erskine; one brother and three sisters. William is survived by his son, Chuck Erskine and his companion, Shirley Jones, of Lorraine; his daughters, Barbara Thompson and her husband Larry of Osawatomie, Linda Borders and her husband Ron of Mesa, AZ, and Jean Meyers and her husband Richard of St. John; his grandchildren, Eric Thompson, Rebekah Redifer, Andy Thompson, Todd Borders, Terri Roberts, Tony Erskine, Tasha Erskine, and Jessie Jones; and 20 great- grandchildren. Music was provided by Richard Parks who sang 'The Old Rugged Cross'. Casketbearers were Eric Thompson, Andy Thompson, Todd Borders, Troy Roberts, Richard Meyer, and Ron Borders. "Merry Douglas Scott Canavan 1913-2006 Graveside services and interment for Merry Douglas Scott Canavan, 92, York, PA, are Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Cemetery with Father Brian Klingele officiating.
