Toumberlin 1921-2006 Charles E. Toumberlin, age 84, of Garnett passed away Monday, January 10, 2006, at his home. He was born May 12, 1921 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Charles Franklin and Elva Alice (Doudna) Toumberlin. He graduated from the Evergreen Grade School near Wellsville. He worked oil leases for Burt Heminger near Rantoul before working at the Sheldon Tallman Print Shop in Ottawa. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Pearl Burnett on February 9, 1942 in Garnett. They shared over fifty-one years of marriage before the death of his wife on December 8, 1993. He served our country during World War II. He entered into active duty on September 10, 1942. He attained a rank of Corporal in the 3702 Army Air Force. He was a Toxic Gas Handler in Normandy, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France, and Rhineland receiving a E.A.M.E. with six bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and three Oversea Bars. He was honorably discharged on October 12, 1945. Charles worked as a welder and painter for the Warner Manufacturing Company in Ottawa for many years before working for Penny's Ready Mix also in Ottawa. Charles owned and operated a small engine repair shop at his home southwest of Ottawa. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Garnett Memorial Post No. 6397; and the Sertoma Club in Ottawa. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, traveling, feeding and bird watching, dancing and loved attending his grandchildren's baseball games. Charles is survived by a son, Edward Lee Toumberlin and his wife, Maribeth of Seaford, DE; three daughters, Sherrilann Toumberlin of Garnett, Linda Garber of Richmond, and Joan King and her husband, Charles of Princeton; two brothers, George Toumberlin of Ottawa and John Toumberlin of Weimer, TX; a sister, Betty Robertson and her husband, Robbie of Ottawa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2006, at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Interment was at Richmond Cemetery, Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Lenexa or the First Christian Church of Garnett and sent to the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067. Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 3: "Judith Ann Rockers 1966-2006 Judith Ann Rockers, 40, of Kansas City North, MO, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at The Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland Ohio on her fortieth birthday. Judi was born on January 8, 1966 in Rockford, IL. Judi was a very warm, giving, and loving person, with a passion for her children and her family, her faith community, and for helping children who might not otherwise have a chance in life. She obtained her bachelor's degree in English from Northern Illinois University and her nursing degree from William Jewell College. Judi was an active member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, a Eucharistic minister and school board president of the parish school. She was very interested in international adoptions and was a crusader for adoption. She relished the opportunity to talk to prospective adoptive parents and had a wealth of knowledge about adoption issues that she loved to share. Mrs. Rockers was preceded in death by her sister, Donna M. Varner. Judi is survived by her husband, Christopher J. Rockers, six children, William Christopher, Abigail Marie, Ellen Leigh, Jackson Jin Yung, Joseph Jee Tae, and Anna Er Niu; parents Robert and Eileen Loney of Rockford, IL; brother Patrick (Debbie) Loney of Cleveland, OH; father and mother-in-law, Mark J. Rockers and Joan M. Rockers of Garnett, Kansas, brother-in-law, Daniel Rockers of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law, Margaret (Rick) Mechnig of Garnett, KS, sister-in-law, Mary (Brian) Blomquist of Eagle, CO, brother-in-law, Jon Varner of Eden Prairie, MN, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was Friday, January 13, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Holt International Children Services Waiting Child Fund. Contributions may be made at the church, directly at P.O.
