Interment was in Olivet Memorial Park, Colma, CA. Mr. Wells died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Golden Heights Living Center. Jim Wells was born July 13, 1924, at Garnett, the son of George and Mary (Craycraft) Wells, where he lived until he joined the United States Navy in 1942. He served his country until 1956. Jim met and married Emma Rose Marsheck in 1951 in California where they made their home until Emma passed away on February 19, 2003. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked in construction. Jim returned to Garnett in October 2005, where he resided until his death. He was a very loving brother, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Wells is survived by his sister, Doris Ulses and her husband, Carl, of Garnett; and two grandchildren. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." "Mae Amanda Cook 1911-2006 Funeral services for Mae Amanda Cook, 94, are Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel. Interment is in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Cook died Tuesday, June 20, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care. Mae Amanda Cook was born October 30, 1911, at Neodesha, the daughter of Charley Thomas and Nellie Mae (Martin) Cass. Mae was united in marriage to George Franklin Croan at Iola on September 26, 1933. To this union five children were born; two sons, George Earl Croan and John Charles Croan; and three daughters, Beverly Ann Croan, Nellane Kay Croan, and Earlene Croan. Mae married Ralph Earnest Cook, a retired railroader and longtime Garnett insurance salesman, on May 8, 1963, at Miami, OK. They lived on the Cook family farm four miles east of Garnett until shortly after Ralph's death in 1986 when Mae moved to Parkside Place in Garnett. In early 1999, she moved to Lawrence to live with her daughter Nellane Stussie and husband Gary. She lived there until she was injured in a fall in December 2003, where upon she was taken to Long Term Care at Anderson County Hospital. Mae worked as a nurses aide for over 30 years, loved to paint, and was a prolific reader. She was also a longtime member of the JJJ Card Club of Garnett. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by husbands George F. Croan on May 28, 1959, and Ralph E. Cook on December 18, 1986; two infant children; her parents, Charley and Nellie Cass; her grandson, George Ellis Croan on March 7, 1989; and her great-grandson, Justin Eugene Powelson on February 21, 1971. Mae is survived by three children, her daughter, Beverly King of Humboldt, her son and daughter-in-law, George and Irene Croan of Garnett, and her daughter and son-in-law, Nellane and Gary Stussie of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many more friends and relatives. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Pre-recorded musical selections include 'Old Rugged Cross' and 'One Day At A Time'. Casketbearers are Gary Stussie, Larry Stussie, John Roberts, Dwayne Martin, Jeff Baum, and Forrest Cass. The family suggests memorials be made to Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care or Midland Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
