Mr. Ahring died Tuesday evening, January 17, 2006, at Anderson County, Hospital." "Claude D. VanSickle 1930-2006 Funeral services for Claude D. VanSickle, 75, Princeton, were Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mr. VanSickle died Friday, January 13, at his home. Claude D. VanSickle was born December 12, 1930, at Henry, SD, the son of Claude Volney and Mabel Lee (McRoden) VanSickle. He lived in South Dakota until joining the United States Navy, where he served for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He moved to this area following his military service, living in Richmond for 20 years and in Princeton since 1989. He attended school in South Dakota and later earned his General Equivalency Diploma. Claude was a meat cutter for C&S Market in Eudora from mid-2000 and for Country Mart in Ottawa during the 1990's. From 1970 until 1990, he owned and operated the Richmond Locker Plant in Richmond. He was a member of Princeton Christian Church, Williamsburg/Ottawa Wildlife, and was active on the Richmond City Council. Claude and Wynona L. Kirkland were married February 21, 1989, at Miami, OK. She survives of their home. Mr. VanSickle was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mabel VanSickle; his sister, Lynn Phipps; his brother Alan VanSickle; and his granddaughter, Kirsten VanSickle. Claude is also survived by his son, Chris VanSickle of Richmond; his daughters, Laura D. Hermreck and Laurinda L. Pearson, both of Richmond and Wanda Smith of Ottawa; his son, Wayland D. Kirkland, Jr. of Placerville, CA; his brothers, David Lee VanSickle of Chicago, IL and Brian VanSickle of St. Louis, MO; 12 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
