Gilliland 1925-2006 Funeral services for Roy R. Gilliland, 80, Iola, were Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Waugh- Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola with Rev. Steve Traw officiating. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery. Mr. Gilliland died Wednesday, June 21, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Roy R. Gilliland was born October 2, 1925, at Colony, the son of Joe and Edith (Byfield) Gilliland. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 until 1946. On July 9, 1945, Roy married Peggy M. Farris in San Francisco. He worked in the meat industry for 32 years starting with M&M Packing, where he worked as a butcher and then salesman. In 1972, he moved to Lawrence and worked as a meat inspector for the U.S.D.A. He retired in 1987 and returned to Iola. He developed a passion for attending auctions and steam engine shows. He also collected, restored, and traded old tools along with selling and installing new handles. Roy was a member of the American Legion and First Christian Church. Mr. Gilliland was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Gilliland and Bob Gilliland; and his sisters, Arvilla Helms, Wilma McGhee, Lillie Dickerson, and Helen Anderson. Roy is survived by his wife, Peggy; his son, Richard Gilliland and his wife Rhoda of Iola; his daughter, Marsha Storrer and her husband Kenneth of Iola; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Lee Gilliland of Overland Park and Lawrence Gilliland of Lone Elm. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 4: "Reuben Joel Keim June 20, 2006 Graveside services and interment for Reuben Joel Keim, infant son of Leslie Dean and Suetta Mae (Yoder) Keim, Garnett, were Thursday, June 22, 2006, at the Amish Cemetery, Garnett, with Larry Keim and Nelson Yoder officiating. Reuben was born and died shortly after his birth on Tuesday, June 20, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. In addition to his parents, Reuben is survived by his sisters, Miriam Ilene, age 7, and Martha Ann, age 6; his brother, Joseph Lynn, age 3, all of the home; his grandparents, Ivan and Dorothy Keim, Harley and Ruth Ann Yoder, and his great-grandparents, Toby D. and Barbara Yoder, all of Garnett. Casketbearers were Leander Keim and Devon Yoder. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." "Edgar Johnson 1920-2006 Graveside services and inurnment for Edgar Johnson, 86, Ottawa, were Friday, June 23, 2006, at Osawatomie Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, June 21, at Richmond Healthcare Center, Richmond, KS. Edgar Johnson was born May 25, 1920, at Osawatomie, the son of Louis M. and Cordie Alice (Beck) Johnson. He grew up in Osawatomie and lived there until moving to Little Rick, AR, in 1941. In 1946, following his military services in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, he returned to Osawatomie, moving to Paola in 1953, to Princeton in 1975, and to Ottawa in 1985. Edgar was a dairy farmer for 25 years and had earlier worked for Missouri-Pacific Railroad as a switchman and, for a short time, worked for the Osawatomie Post Office. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie and Warren Black Post #60, American Legion in Ottawa. On January 17, 1941, Edgar was united in marriage with Miriam B. Potter in Osawatomie. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2005. Mr. Johnson was also preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Cordie Johnson; six brothers and four sisters. Edgar is survived by his son, Rick Johnson of Greeley; his daughter, Loretta Edwards of Garnett; and his grandchildren, Scott Johnson, David Johnson, Shannon Johnson, James Lewis, and Jessica Lewis.
