'Rock' Richards 1946-2006 Funeral services for Terryll L. 'Rock' Richards, 59, Vassar, were Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment was in Richmond Cemetery. Mr. Richards died Monday, July 3, at St. Francis Health Center, Topeka. Terryll L. Richards was born October 22, 1946, at Junction City, the son of Harold T. and Barbara (Wahl) Richards. He grew up in Alta Vista, graduating from Alta Vista High School with the Class of 1964. He lived in many locations around the world. He lived in Ottawa for two years and in Vassar for the past 12 years. He was a signal man for the railroad. He began his career with Rock Island Railroad in July of 1965 and also worked for Union Pacific, Santa Fe, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe, retiring in July of 2001. Rock served with the United States Army from May, 1968 to January, 1970. While serving in the Viet Nam War, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the local Railroad Union; Brotherhood of Railroad Signal Men, Chicago, IL; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 45901, Ottawa. On September 2, 1994, Rock was united in marriage with Barbara J. (Robertson) Oestreicher. She survives, of their home. Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his father, Harold T. Richards; and his brother, Harold A. 'Scoot' Richards. Rock is also survived by his mother, Barbara Richards of Pomona; his daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Richards and Carlos Garcia Correa of Atlanta, GA, and Alison and Bill Wisdom of Manhattan; his son, Matthew Richards of Jacksonville, FL; his stepsons, Marty Oestreicher of Garnett and Steve Oestreicher of Richmond; his stepdaughters and their husbands, Connie and Curt Guilfoyle of Richmond and Katie and Tom Reimer of Ottawa; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Denise Richards and Gary and Sharon Richards, all of Topeka and his brother, Jim Richards, also of Topeka; his sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Richard Shever of Kansas City, MO; and 11 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to Colmery-O'Neill Veterans Medical Center ICU. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: Leota Lee Thompson 1937-2006 Leota Lee Thompson, 68, Ottawa, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. No services were planned. Ms. Thompson has been cremated. Leota Lee Thompson was born September 4, 1937, at Ottawa, the daughter of Sidney Lee and Mary A. (Angleton) Thompson. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident and graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1955. Following graduation from high school, Leota joined the Bowers & Bowers Law office as a legal assistant. She continued to work there when it later became Bill Bowers Law Office, then Bowers & Sheldon Charter in 1985-1999 and is currently known as Haley Title Company, where she worked as a Senior Staff member until her death. She was also co-owner of Pastime Antiques for 35 years. Leota enjoyed gambling, traveling, hunting, and fishing. She also had fun going to flea markets and purchasing antiques. Leota greatly enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family. Ms. Thompson was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Lee Thompson. Leota is survived by her lifetime partner, Margie Jones of Ottawa; her mother, Mary A. Thompson of Ottawa; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Richard Foltz of Princeton; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Connie Thompson, Bob and Nancy Thompson, and Jack and Sharon Thompson, all of Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter. Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements." "Kelly Nickell 1950-2006 Graveside services and interment for Kelly Nickell, 55, Centerville, were Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Goodrich Cemetery in Parker.
