Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Greeley. Mr. Burkhardt died at his home on Friday, July 7, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob Burkhardt was born November 22, 1942, at Abilene, KS, the son of Alvin and Lydia (Wassinger) Burkhardt. He grew up in Abilene and Chapman. He graduated from Chapman High School with the Class of 1960. He then joined the United States Navy and served three years. Bob moved to Topeka in 1971 to join the Topeka Police Department. He retired from that department in April 1996 as a Detective Sergeant after serving 25 years. The past several years, he has been employed by Commerce Bank and Trust as a security guard at the 21st and Wanamaker Road location. His hobbies were RV'ing and fishing. He enjoyed life to its fullest until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early June. Bob was an avid K-State and Chiefs fan. On March 29, 1973, Bob and Marlyn Katzer were married. She survives at the home. Mr. Burkhardt was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Burkhardt in August 1988. Bob is also survived by his son, Randy and his wife, Christine of Topeka; his daughter, Kristine Noland of Jamestown, TN; four grandchildren, Shawn, Corey, and Randi (Nikki to her grandpa) Burkhardt of Topeka, and Whitney Noland of Jamestown, TN; his mother, Lydia K. Burkhardt of Hays; his brother, Ron Burkhardt of Denver, CO; and his sister, Debbie of Salina. Also surviving are his aunt, Mary Stecklein of Hays; dear cousins, Shirley Wallace of Salina, Jeanne Baker of Pincallas Park, FL, and Kenny Stecklein of San Mateo, CA. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bob and Shirley Katzer and Tom and Mary Katzer, all of Greeley; Carolyn and Tony Pruegert of Blanchard, OK; nieces, nephews, cousins, many, many friends, and his special canine partner, Jeffrey. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art', 'Amazing Grace', and 'The Rest Of Mine'. Casketbearers were K.C. Blodgett, Don Crenshaw, Steve Damron, Dennis Moser, Rick Salyer, and Maurice Wessel. Honorary casketbearers were Susan Salyer, Kenny Stecklein, Mary Stecklein, and Jane Wessel. A visitation was held at Christ The King Church in Topeka on Sunday, July 9. The family suggests memorials be made to Midland Hospice. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: "Cheryl P. Erwin 1941-2006 Funeral services for Cheryl P. Erwin, 64, Parker, were Monday, July 10, 2006, at Parker United Methodist Church. Interment was in Highland Cemetery at Parker. Mrs. Erwin died Thursday, July 6, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Cheryl P. Erwin was born October 16, 1941, in Linn County, Kansas, near Parker, the daughter of Rolla Everett and Helen A. (McCarthy) Hampton. She graduated from Parker Rural High School in 1959. Cheryl was united in marriage to Edward W. Erwin on April 15, 1961, at Wichita. With Edward's 30-year military career, they lived coast to coast and border to border while he was in the Navy. They retired in Parker in 1981. Edward preceded Cheryl in death on September 17, 2000. She spent her working life as an office worker. Over a twenty-year period, she worked at various offices and locations. She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church, the Parker High School Alumni, and was a lifetime member of the Parker Community Historical Society. Mrs. Erwin was also preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Everett; her father, Rolla Hampton; and her brother, Philip A. Hampton, Sr. Cheryl is survived by her mother and stepfather, Helen and Charles O. Haverfield of Parker; her brother, Charles M. Hampton, Sr. of Parker; her sisters, Marilyn J. Rhoades of the home and Rolleen D. Stites of LaCygne; three stepbrothers, Charles L. Haverfield of Parker, Robert Haverfield and Steve Haverfield, both of Yakima, WA; her foster daughter, Linda Walsh of Mound City; two foster grandchildren; five foster great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Casketbearers were her nephews, Rex Stites, Philip Hampton, Jr., David Sheets, Ronald Hampton, Greg Hampton, Justin Sheets, Duane Hampton, James Hampton, and Chuck Hampton, Jr. The family suggests memorial be made to the Parker Community Historical Society. Page 5, Column 3: "Kelly Nickell 1950-2006 Graveside services and interment for Kelly Nickell, 55, Centerville, were Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Goodrich Cemetery in Parker. Mr. Nickell died Wednesday, July 5, at his home. Kelly Nickell was born August 9, 1950, at Parker, the son of Ralph and Ollie (Bledsoe) Nickell. He was self-employed as a mechanic and enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, dirt bikes, and demo derbies. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Parker and the VFW in Greeley. Mr. Nickell was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Nickell, in September 1981; and his brother, Garry Nickell, in June 1999. Kelly is survived by his son, Jason Nickell of Centerville; his daughter, Betty Nickell of Ottawa; his mother, Ollie Nickell of Parker; his brother, Ralph Nickell of Parker; his sisters, Phyllis Mundell, Karen Kennedy, and Sherrie Blackman, all of Parker; and his granddaughter, Katlyn Nickell.
