Interment was in Centerville Cemetery. Mrs. Bowman died Wednesday, July 26, as the result of an accident near LaCygne. Deborah Diane Bowman was born May 5, 1960, at Fort Scott, the daughter of Eugene Cox and Connie Spillman. She graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in Mound City in 1978. Deborah married Rickey Bowman on February 11, 1978, at Blue Mound. She worked as a receptionist for the Olathe Health System offices in LaCygne, Mound City, and Garnett. She was a member of the Centerville Community Church. Mrs. Bowman is survived by her husband, Rick, of Mound City; her sons, Derrick Bowman and Rachel of Centerville, and Blake Bowman of Mound City; her daughter, Angela Cummings and Dan of Blue Mound; her father, Eugene Cox of Blue Mound; her mother, Connie Cox of Mound City; her brother, Kevin Cox of Fulton, KS; her sister Sherri Spencer of Mound City; her grandsons, Kade and Koye; and her grandfather, Maurice Cox of Mound City. Memorial contributions are suggested to a scholarship fund for Blake. Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, was in charge of arrangements." "Maxine 'Peg' Smith 1916-2006 Graveside services and interment for Maxine 'Peg' Smith, 90, Ottawa, were Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, July 26, at Peterson Health Care, Osage City. Maxine Smith was born February 18, 1916, at Ottawa, the daughter of George W. and Maggie (McCurdy) Reed. After attending Ottawa High School, she was employed by the Robe Hardware and Auto and later by Goss and Gentner Hardware. Peg and Harry E. Smith were united in marriage on February 23, 1935, at Ottawa. From 1950-1968, she and her husband owned and operated the Harry Smith Auto Supply. Following their retirement, they spent the winter months in Texas, where they did volunteer work for the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1989. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident until 2001 when she moved to the Osage City area to live with family. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Pharr, TX, and when in Ottawa, attended Ottawa Bible Church. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her parents, George and Maggie Reed; her brothers, Wayne Reed, Raymond Reed, and Marlin Reed; her sister, Juanita Duer; and her granddaughter, Teri Morris. Peg is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. and Donna Smith of Topeka and David E. and Geri Smith of Osage City; her grandchildren, Tami Waldy of Topeka, Richard L. Smith, Jr., of Garnett, Daniel E. Smith of Lawrence, Dana E. Smith of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Justin D. Smith of Fort Collins, CO; and 17 great- grandchildren. Page 5, Column 2: "Christopher Ryan Brown 1985-2006 Cremation memorial services for Christopher Ryan Brown, 20, LaHarpe, will be Saturday, August 5, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses, 1001 West Chestnut, Gas, KS. Mr. Brown died Thursday, July 27, on U.S. 75 Highway, south of Burlington as the result of a two vehicle accident. Christopher Ryan Brown was born August 15, 1985, at Kansas City, KS, the son of Robert Eugene Salazar and Carol Denise Brown. He grew up in Kansas City and was a self-employed swimming pool contractor. He was also a volunteer fireman for the LaHarpe Fire Department. Chris enjoyed the outdoors, riding four-wheelers, fishing, and camping, working on cars, and being with family and friends. He was one of the Jehovah's Witnesses at Gas. Chris and Tamara Graham were married on October 2, 2004, at Gas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his parents, Denise Brown of Gardner; his father, Bob Salazar and his wife Brenda of Garnett; his grandparents, Bonnie Brooks of Bonner Springs, Alice Salazar of Olathe, and Ronald Brown and Ron Broshears, both of Wichita; his mother and father-in-law, Jim and Linda Graham of Yates Center; his brothers, Curtis Moore of Bonner Springs and Rudy Salazar of Garnett; and his sister Randi Salazar of Garnett. The family suggests memorials be made to LaHarpe Volunteer Fire Department and sent in care of City Hall, 616 South Main, LaHarpe, KS 66751. "Jeannine Hinsley 1930-2006 Funeral services for Jeannine Hinsley, 76, of Lake Helen, FL, formerly of Garnett, were Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Hinsley died Sunday, July 23, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, MO. Cremation followed the services. Jeannine Hinsley was born January 20, 1930, at Amsterdam, MO, the daughter of Roy and Juanita (Davidson) Davey. She lived in Shawnee, KS, for many of her adult years, later living in Lake Helen, FL, and Greenfield, MO. She was an antique collector. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Jeannine and Lee Hinsley were married November 5, 1949, at Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1996. Mrs. Hinsley was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Danny Richardson on June 23, 2006. Jeannine is survived by her son, Steve Hinsley and his wife Mary Lou of Sanford, FL; her daughter, Dawn Richardson of Greenfield, MO; her twin brother, Don Davey of Shawnee, KS; her brother, Jim Davey of Pittsburg; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 3: "John Edward Rook 1951-2006 Funeral services for John Edward Rook, 55, Welda, were Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony with Pastor Steve Bubna officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mr. Rook died Wednesday, July 26, at Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. John Edward Rook was born at the Osborn Clinic in Colony on April 17, 1951, the son of Elmer and J. Maxine (Turner) Rook. He grew up on the family farm south of Welda. He attended Welda schools through his freshman year. Following Elmer's death in 1967, Maxine and John moved to Colony. He graduated from Crest High School with the Class of 1969. John was a cattleman, farmer, and friend to all he met. He enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He was especially proud to be a member of the Crest Lancer Football 'Chain Gang', and a moderator for the Wednesday night 'fellowship'. John and Bonnie Decker were married September 2, 1983, at the home where they spent the last 23 years together. She survives, of their home. Mr. Rook was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Maxine Rook; and one infant brother and one infant sister. John is also survived by Bonnie's children and their families, Connie and Rick Thompson of Kincaid and their children, Blake and Hannah Thompson of Osawatomie, Erin and Justin Zook and their daughter Brylee of Garnett and Nick Thompson of Kincaid; Garry and Paula Decker and their children Jenna and Luke, all of Welda; his step-father, Bill Cooper and his wife, Frances, of Welda; and a special aunt and uncle, Bob and Althea Buckle of Welda. Music was provided by Beverly Wittmer, pianist, and Bob Roush, who sang 'Green Green Grass of Home' and 'The Lord's Prayer'. Other musical selections included 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' and 'Happy Trails'. Casketbearers were Derrick Adams, Stan Boots, Brad Cook, John Harrington, Eldon Strickler, Ronnie Walter, Randy West, and Gene Vincent. Honorary casketbearers were David Comstock, Dick Hamilton, Rollin Strickler, Bob Swift, and Clair Wiley. The family suggests memorials be made to the John Rook Memorial Fund.
