August 4, 2006 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 10, No. 59 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 3, Column 3: "Leoti Matilda Hope Creighton 1909-2006 Funeral services for Leoti Matilda Hope Creighton, 97, Osawatomie, were Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Interment was in Osawatomie Cemetery. Mrs. Creighton died Saturday, July 29, at her home. Leoti Matilda Hope Creighton was born February 3, 1909, at Parker, to Thaddeus Hope and Lula Bell Chamberlain, the oldest of three children. When she was 10 years old, her mother passed away and the family lived with her grandmother Hope for three years. After that, they moved to be by themselves. She grew up helping her father with the family. They moved to Parker in 1921 where she attended high school and graduated in 1925. Leoti and James Boyd Creighton were married in 1928 and to this union were born six children. She worked at the State Hospital for 22 years. After taking mandatory retirement, she worked for the Linn County Newspaper at LaCygne for three years until they moved to Mound City. She then returned to the State Hospital and worked seven more years. She was converted in the Parker Methodist Church where she served until she married. She attended the Cadmus Church, the Goodrich Church, and finally the Osawatomie Assembly of God for several years. Mrs. Creighton was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd Creighton; her sons, Richard Leroy and John Harvey; her step-daughter, Beatrice Howard; her parents, Thaddeus and Lula Chamberlain; one brother, one sister; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She cared for Beatrice and Robert Sullivan both for five years until they graduated from high school. Leoti is survived by her son, James Creighton of Lane; her daughters, Marjorie Roberts and Judith Brown, both of Osawatomie; and Mary McKinney of Yellville, AR; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and many friends. Casketbearers were Dale Lawhead, Greg Christiansen, Eugene Rogers, Clayton Baird, Bill Brown, and Jim Wilson. The family suggests memorials to the Garnett Assembly of God Church.
