McAfee 1920-2006 Funeral services for Donald R. McAfee, 86, Garnett, are Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Skedel and Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. McAfee died Sunday, August 20, at Anderson County Hospital. The family greeted friends on Tuesday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel." "Cecil E. Powell 1927-2006 Funeral services for Cecil E. Powell, 79, Colony, were Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Colony, with Rev. Mark McCoy officiating. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, KS. Mr. Powell died Thursday, August 17, at Allen County Hospital, Iola. Cecil E. Powell was born March 30, 1927, at Kincaid, the son of Edward H. and Ethyl Faye (Hyde) Powell. He graduated from Colony High School with the Class of 1945. Cecil bought his first truck when he was 18 years old. He drove locally for 30 years. He then went to work for the Colony Post Office delivering mail until retiring in 2000. He lived in Anderson County all of his life. He was active in the community and attended the Colony Christian Church. Cecil and Donna J. Wedeman were married April 12, 1960, at Yates Center. This union was blessed with two sons, Mitchell and Wayne. She survives of their home. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ethyl Powell; four brothers, Floyd, Harvey, Orval, and Kenneth; and three sisters, Pearl, Florence, and Kathleen. Cecil is also survived by his sons, Mitchell Powell and his wife Nancy of Halstead and Howard Wayne Powell and his wife Cindy of Iola; and three grandchildren, Aaron of Halstead, Kenneth and his wife Chrissy of Iola, and Keith and his friend Amber of Iola; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Wedeman and his sister-in-law, Zone Wiley and her husband Clair of Colony; and many nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Cindy Beckmon and Beverly Wittmer, pianist. Musical selections included 'Never Grow Old' and 'Look For Me'. Casketbearers were Dennis Allen, Rick Bunnel, Tim Dietrich, Leslie Gilliland, Paul Stephens, and Steve Weatherman. Honorary casketbearers were Weldon Goodell, Gene Hoel, Bill Michael, Rollin Strickler, and Clair Wiley. The family suggests memorials be made to Colony First Responders. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Beddo, 50, Princeton, are Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Interment is in Berea Cemetery in Richmond. Mr. Beddo died Saturday, August 19, at his home. Donal L. Beddo was born June 6, 1956, at San Fernando Valley, CA, the son of Donal C. and Delores J. (Hines) Beddo. He grew up in Carson, CA, and graduated from Carson High School with the Class of 1974. He lived in the Garnett, Richmond, and Princeton area since he was eighteen. Donnie was a welder for Ottawa Truck in Ottawa for 23 years. He was a member and Deacon of Centropolis Baptist Church, Garnett Saddle Club, and was a volunteer for Compeer of Franklin County Mental Health. Donnie and Jacqueline J. Carpenter were married on June 4, 1977, at Garnett. She survives, of their home. Mr. Beddo was preceded in death by his parents, Donal C. Beddo and Delores J. Beddo; his grandfather, Bill Hines; and his grandparents, D.L. and Bertha Beddo. Donnie is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donal Lee and Susan M. Beddo of Princeton; his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie J. and Matt B. Mader of Ottawa; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Leon Hermreck and Dana and David Hardman, all of Garnett, and Dawn and Darin Leadbetter of Ottawa; his brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Shea Beddo of Harrisonville, MO; his sister-in-law and husband, Kelley and Bob Hennessey of Richmond; his sister-in-law, Kathy Ashburn of Ottawa; his stepmother, Tomi Beddo of Mesquite, NV; and his grandmothers, Cleo Couch of Garnett and Vi Carpenter of Missouri. Page 5, Column 3: "Lucy Ruth (Reynolds) McCollam 1909-2006 Graveside services for Lucy Ruth (Reynolds) McCollam, 96, Kincaid, were Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at Kincaid Cemetery. Mrs. McCollam died Sunday, August 20, at Mercy Health Center of Fort Scott. Lucy Ruth McCollam was born October 24, 1909, on a farm south of Kincaid to George and Eda May (Porter) Reynolds. At the age of four, Ruth started school at Ozark, south of Kincaid. Her first teacher was her aunt, Charlotte Porter. Ruth later graduated from Kincaid Rural High School in 1926. As a freshman, she played the piano for the Saturday night silent movies for which she received a silver dollar. Ruth and L. M. 'Jack' McCollam were married on August 26, 1926, at Iola. They had been married 59 years when he preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. McCollam was an active member of the Kincaid United Methodist Church where she served as pianist, organist, and Sunday School teacher for many years. Throughout her lifetime, she taught music to literally hundreds of students. She was an avid reader and was a lover of art, music, and history. Some of her fondest memories were of her travels to Europe. Ruth was a member of the Cfachique Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Kansas Federation of Music Clubs, Iola Music Club, and the Twentieth Century Club of Kincaid. Mrs. McCollam was also preceded in death by her grandson, Steve Gillaspie; her great- grandson, Mark Bartlett; two brothers and two sisters. Ruth is survived by her children, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon McCollam of Independence, Rosemary and George Gillaspie of rural Kincaid, CSM (Ret.) Jack and Delores Butler of Waynesville, MO, and James A. McCollam and Kathleen McCollam, both of Kincaid; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Doris Atkins of Oceanside, CA.
