Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Miller died Sunday night, August 20, at his home. Frank Miller, Jr. was born October 6, 1913, at Garnett, the son of Frank Ernest and Hazel V. (Williamson) Miller. He was a lifelong resident of Anderson County, graduating from Garnett High School in 1934. He was a farmer and stockman, retiring in the early 1980's. Frank and Lois Benjamin were married January 3, 1937, at Iola. She survives, of their home. Frank built their house on the farm in 1959. Following retirement, Frank built a lake house on the Sugar Valley Lake and he also turned his attention to furniture building, making numerous clocks, desks and chairs, and other pieces, all from lumber that was harvested on the family farm. He was a member of First Christian Church. Throughout his life, Frank was generous with time. Serving of two school boards, Farm Bureau Board, Fair Board, HIA Board, 25 years as an ASCS Committeeman, and Rural Water District #1 are only a few of his contributions. He enjoyed all sports, but particularly baseball and the Kansas City Royals. He was an avid bowler for over 34 years, winning the state championship in 1968. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathryn Ann Miller; his daughter-in-law, Virginia Miller; his son-in-law, Terry Stewart; his parents, Frank and Hazel Miller; his sister, Laura Smith; his brothers, Russell, Ernest, Melvin, and Bob Miller; and two grandsons, Randy Miller and Gerry Miller. Frank is also survived by his sons, Gerald Miller and Richard Miller and his wife Dorothy, all of Garnett; his daughter, Lorraine Stewart of Cashion, OK; his grandchildren, Cindy Lowe and husband Kenny, Cherie Ingram and husband, Mark, Troy Stewart and wife Marla, Michelle Wiens and husband Randy, Angela Taylor, Nancy Klenda and husband Marty, and Tom Miller and wife Sharla; and 21 great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Jenna Wight, vocalist. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace'. Casketbearers were Randy Wiens, Kenny Lowe, Marty Klenda, Troy Stewart, Tom Miller, and Mark W. Ingram. Honorary casketbearers were Paul Phares, Larry Zwiener, Charlie Foltz, Jerry Gettler, Sr., Jim Thweatt, and Bill Barnes. The family suggests memorials be made to the Anderson County Fair Board. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 3: "Donald R. McAfee 1920-2006 Funeral services for Donald R. McAfee, 86, Garnett, were Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Skedel and Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. McAfee died Sunday, August 20, at Anderson County Hospital. Donald R. McAfee was born May 11, 1920, at Garnett, the son of Harry and Nona (Beech) McAfee. He attended the rural Fairground School before graduating from Garnett High School in 1938. He began working at the Garnett Church Furniture Factory following graduation. In 1942, he joined the United States Army, serving one year state side, a year in Africa, and two years in Italy. Following his time in the service, Don returned to Garnett, marrying Naomi Sarver on November 3, 1946, at Ottawa. He also returned to his job at the furniture factory. Don purchased the factory in 1960, selling it in 1979 due to health complications and later purchasing it back in 1985. In 1993 Don sold the business and retired. He was able to have completed projects for some of the largest churches in the United States and many local churches, even making pieces for the Pope's visit in 1987. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent or assistant superintendent for over 40 years. He was instrumental in the construction of the church's sanctuary and educational building. Don also served over 55 years on the Anderson County Fair Board, 29 years as leader of the Silver Arrow 4-H Club, and many years on the Southeast Kansas Health Board. Mr. McAfee was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nona McAfee; an infant sister, Beulah; and two brothers, Wayne and Leonard. Don is survived by his wife, Naomi, of Garnett; his sons, Lowell McAfee and his wife Jennifer of Olathe, Gary McAfee of Albuquerque, NM, Mark McAfee and his wife Yonnie of Wichita, and Duane McAfee and his wife Celia of Cedar Rapids, IA; his daughter, Carol Riedel and her husband, Gary of Centralia, MO; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ross McAfee and his wife Linsey and children Jade, Rose and Lily of Lee's Summit, MO, Ryan McAfee of Merriam, Carrie Lucas and her husband Jon, Paulette Thorne and her husband Jacob, and Heidi Riedel, all of Columbia, MO, Kevin McAfee of Chicago, IL, and Mega McAfee of Cedar Rapids, IA; and his sister, Ruth O'Brien of Oak Harbor, WA. Music was provided by Paul Massey, organist, and Doug Manifold, vocalist. Musical selections included 'It Is Well With My Soul' and 'In The Garden'. 'Face To Face' was sung as a congregational hymn. Casketbearers were Ross McAfee, Ryan McAfee, Jon Lucas, Jacob Thorne, Kevin McAfee, and Mike Wawrzewski. Honorary casketbearers were Darrel Rickabough, Doug Manifold, Roy Hermreck, Bob Heriford, Tom Lewis, Dan Coltrane, Andy Frye, Vern Belew, Henry Roeckers, Sam Croucher, Bob Certain, Charles Lee Parks, and Marvin Trumpp. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
