Interment was in Appanoose Cemetery. Miss Spillman died Wednesday, September 13, at the University of Kansas Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident. Bayley Hanna Spillman was born June 23, 1990, at Fort Scott, the daughter of Kenny Spillman and Toni Prettyman. She was a student at Pomona High School in her junior year and was involved in volleyball, basketball, track, softball, cheerleading, and dance. Bayley was an honor roll student and was a member of FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America. Miss Spillman was preceded in death by her paternal grandfathers, Russell Spillman and Don Signer. Bayley is survived by her mother, Toni Reece and husband Tim; her father, Kenny Spillman and wife Carlene; her brothers, Victor and Emerson Reece; her sisters, Hannah and Madison Beckman and Ali Jones; her grandparents, Fred and Connie Prettyman, Vic and Dorothy Reece, Dee Spillman, and Sue Signer; and her great-grandmother, Annabelle Prettyman. Page 5, Column 2: "Mildred Louise Highberger 1921-2006 Funeral services for Mildred Louise Highberger, 85, Westphalia, were Monday, September 11, 2006, at St. Teresa Catholic Church with Fr. Marianand Mendem celebrating the Mass. Interment was in St. Teresa Cemetery. Mrs. Highberger died Friday, September 8, at Life Care Center in Burlington. Mildred Louise Highberger was born April 27, 1921, at Westphalia, the daughter of Phil and Catherine (McCallion) Lutz. She grew up in the Westphalia community. She attended St. Teresa Grade School and graduated from Westphalia High School with the Class of 1940. Mildred was united in marriage to Joe A. Highberger on May 14, 1946, at St. Teresa Church. To this union three children were born, Karen, Eileen, and Dennis. They lived and ran a caf‚ and tavern in Westphalia for 13 years. In 1967 they moved to Shawnee, KS. Mildred had a daycare service in her home for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society in Shawnee. In 1998, Mildred moved to The Meadows in Burlington, and then to Life Care Center. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a good homemaker. In her leisure time, she liked to read and listen to country music and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mildred was a member of St. Teresa Church, Westphalia. She was a good friend to many and was a woman of faith with strong Christian values. Mrs. Highberger was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1979; her parents, Phil and Catherine Lutz; her brother, Sylvester Lutz; her sisters, Arilla Benne, Kathleen Edwards; and two infant sisters. Mildred is survived by her daughters, Karen True and husband Gary of Westphalia, and Eileen Melichar and husband Rick of Grain Valley, MO; her son, Dennis Highberger and wife Tanya of Lake Lotawanna, MO: her grandchildren, Jeff True and wife LaDonna, Mike True and wife LeAnn, Chris True and wife Randi, Rob Melichar, Krista Heitman and husband Craig, Kyle Highberger, and Mara Highberger; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, and Aaron True, Kellen and Hayden True, Garrett and Lindsey True, Siera and Sage Heitman, and Michael Melichar; and her brothers-in-law, Clifton Benne, Gilbert Burgan, and Maurice Highberger and wife Rose. Mildred will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever. May God hold her always in the palm of His hand. Music was provided by Brent Stull and Ann Lutz. Offertory gift bearers were granddaughters, Krista Melichar and Mara Highberger. Doug Dieker was lector, and LaDonna True, Larry Dieker, and Dave Pracht were communion ministers. Casketbearers were grandsons, Jeff True, Mike True, Chris True, Rob Melichar, Kyle Highberger, and Craig Heitman. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude's Hospital or St. Teresa Church.
