Interment was in Welda Cemetery. Mrs. Spencer died Wednesday, September 20, at Golden Heights Living Center. Alma was a sister, friend, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great-grandmother. She enjoyed life, loved God and family. Alma Elizabeth Spencer was born on March 4, 1914, at LaHarpe, the daughter of James Jones and Laura Jane (Vail) Jones. Alma married Elvin Robert Spencer on May 9, 1934, at Iola. They moved to Anderson County in 1943 to make a home. After 51 years of marriage, Curly Spencer died on March 2, 1986. She remained on the farm until 1999, and then moved to Texas to live with her daughter, Ann Harrison. In 2003, she moved to Golden Heights Living Center and lived there until her death. Alma was a member of two churches, the Church of the Brethren in Mont Ida and Heritage United Methodist Church in Grapevine, TX. Mrs. Spencer was also preceded in death by her mother, Laura Jane Vail Jones, and her father, James Jones; her sisters, Eva Zornes, Ida Snider, and Mabel Mauk; her brothers, Frank Jones, Elmer Jones, and Harold Jones; and her granddaughter, Jackie Spencer. Alma is survived by her sons, Jimmie Spencer of New Strawn, Dale Spencer, of Mena, AR, Clifford Spencer of Colony, and Wayne Spencer of Irving, TX; her daughter, Ann Harrison of Grapevine, TX; her sisters, Minnie Grizzle of LaHarpe and Nora Coffin of Seattle, WA; her grandchildren, Rhonda McDonnell of Emporia, Brenda Hubler of Garnett, Sandra Bach of Topeka, Mike Spencer of Mena, AR, Tyra Alley of Mena, AR, Mark Spencer of Iola, Stacy West of Iola, Brian Harrison of Grapevine, TX, Jeff Harrison of Euless, TX, Kevin Harrison of Copati, CA, and Doug Harrison of Yuba City, CA; her great-grandchildren, Joshua Hubler of Emporia, Mike, Jerrica, and Jamie McDonnell of Emporia, Amy Blaufuss of Garnett, Chris Blaufuss of Topeka, Taylor Bach of Topeka, Heath Spencer of Mena, AR, Nikki and Chase Alley of Mena, AR, Matthew Goodner of Camden, AR, Jacdyn Spencer of Iola, and Nicole and Robert West of Iola; and her great-great-grandchildren, Baylee and Braden Blaufuss of Garnett. Music was provided by Diane Ball, organist, and Judy Wiley and Kathy Schuster, vocalists. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace'. Casketbearers were Mark Spencer, Mike Spencer, Brian Harrison, Jeff Harrison, Doug Harrison, and Kevin Harrison. She asked to have memorial contributions be made to Mont Ida Church of the Brethren, 18190 West 1300 Road, Welda, KS. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 2: "Millie Irene Roberts 1916-2006 Funeral services for Millie Irene Roberts, 90, Osage City, were Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City. Interment was in LeRoy Cemetery, LeRoy, KS. Mrs. Roberts died Thursday, September 21, at Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Osage City. Millie Irene Roberts was born September 3, 1916, at LeRoy, the daughter of Noah and Sarah (Gustin) Highley. She married Lewis L. Roberts on August 13, 1940, at Yates Center. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1980. Millie lived most of her life in Garnett and Independence, KS, where she was a nurse's aide and a homemaker. She moved to Osage City in July of 2000 where she could be near her caregivers, Larry and Romona, Bartee, and the rest of the family. She was a member of the Iris Club in Independence. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie Mabel Ryan, Altia Marvy Schaapveld, and Martha Marie Hunter; and her brother, Elmer Wright Highley. Millie is survived by her sister, Myrtle Kennard of Mulvane; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osage City Senior Center, Midland Hospice, or the donor's choice.
