Eastman 2005-2006 Graveside services for Jazzmen B. Eastman, 10 months, Princeton, were Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the North Sugar Creek Cemetery near Parker. Jazzmen died Saturday, September 23, at Olathe Medical Center. Jazzmen B. Eastman was born October 27, 2005, at Overland Park, the daughter of Jeremy D. and Stacy R. (Little) Eastman. Jazzy is a special little angel who brought joy to us and everyone who met her. Though her time here was short, she filled our hearts with so much love. Surviving family include her parents, Stacy and Jeremy Eastman of the home; her maternal grandparents, Carl and Carol Courtney of Osawatomie; her paternal grandparents, Robert and Jewell Eastman of Scipio; her maternal great-grandmother, Janice Courtney of Osawatomie; her paternal great-grandparents, Jack and Velma Eastman of Paola; her sisters, Chelsea Little, Natieya Berry, twin sister Shalana Miranda, Stephanie and Destiny Eastman; and her brothers, Jesse and Jason Berry, James Little, and Jordan Eastman. "Steven Thomas Auten Funeral services for Steven Thomas Auten, 44, Fontana, are pending and will be announced later by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Mr. Auten died Friday, September 22, 2006, at Thomas, Manitoba, Canada." Page 5, Column 4: "Joseph Daniel Smercheck 1909-2006 Joseph Daniel Smercheck, 96, Minneapolis, MN, died August 31, 2006. He was born October 7, 1909, at Garnett, the son of Frank S. and Lottie Smercheck. After graduating from Garnett High School, he received a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1932. He was a county agent in Lane, Pratt, and Sumner counties, and was assistant state 4-H Club leader. Mr. Smercheck joined the Kansas Farm Bureau staff in 1945, serving as secretary- treasurer until 1980, than was appointed director of special programs. One of his duties in this position was to work with exchange farm students from Japan who worked on Kansas farms. He retired in 1972. He was president of the Lions Club of Wellington and Manhattan and also served as district governor. Joseph was president of the Kansas State University Alumni Association from 1959 to 1960 and was a member of the Wildcat Club and the Alley Cat Club. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kansas State University Endowment Association for the Joe and Helen Smercheck Memorial Scholarship Fund."
