She was the daughter of Paul and Joan (Miller) Stamy. Carina is also survived by two sisters, Heather and Amanda Stamy of the home; three brothers, Cody, Brett, and Jared Stamy of the home; her grandparents, Everett and Lois Miller of Garnett and Naomi Stamy of Sawyer, KS; her great-grandparents, Melvin and Fern Miller of Westphalia, and George and Treva Flora of Brookville, OH. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Hubert Stamy. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 5, at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Sawyer. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sawyer. Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, was in charge of arrangements." "Donald R. Nelson 1914-2006 Funeral services for Donald R. Nelson, 92, Elsmore, were Thursday, October 5, 2006, at the Elsmore United Methodist Church with Pastor Lloyd Houk officiating. Interment was in Elsmore Cemetery. Mr. Nelson died Monday, October 2, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. Donald R. Nelson was born September 9, 1914, at Elsmore, the son of Peter and Lotti (Strom) Nelson. He was a lifetime resident of the Elsmore area until he moved to Heritage Health Care in Chanute in August of 2005. He graduated from Elsmore High School in 1933. Donald and Pauline V. Ohlfest were married on October 28, 1937, at Iola. Five children were born to this union. Pauline preceded him in death on June 2, 1999. Don was a lifelong farmer in the Elsmore area. In addition to farming, he worked in the oil business and operated a grocery store from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church and served several years on the Allen County Community College Board of Trustees. Mr. Nelson was also preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lotti Nelson; his brother, George Nelson; and his sisters, Doris Johnson and Florence Ludlum. Don is survived by his daughters, Kay Elder of Humboldt, Trudy Basset of Payson, AZ, Rexine Spencer of Thayer, and Tina Nelson of Elsmore; his son, Larry Nelson of Chanute; his sister, Charlotte Claughton of Kansas City; 11 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Music was provided by Lloyd Houk, who sang 'How Great Thou Art' and 'When I Get Where I'm Going'. Casketbearers were Tim Nelson, Randy Elder, Robbie Bassett, Justin Bassett, Clinton Bassett, and Hunter Spencer. Interment was in Lone Elm Cemetery. Mrs. Vermillion died Saturday, September 30, at Kansas City, KS. Wilma Alberta Vermillion was born August 26, 1947, at Ottawa, the daughter of Wallace and Elizabeth (Drury) Shaw. As a child she was a member of the Seekers Not Slackers 4-H Club and the Welda United Methodist Church. She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1965. On June 5, 1970, Wilma married Robert Vermillion at Welda. They were married for 35 years. Wilma had worked at the Gates Corporation in Iola as a material handler since February 1976. She had recently been honored for 30 years of service. Wilma lived near Lone Elm for most of her life and enjoyed being on the farm. She loved horses and helping her children and grandchildren to be involved in showing horses. She volunteered for many years as a horse leader and assisted with the horse show at the Kincaid Fair. Wilma liked to help on the farm, raking hay, working cattle, or whatever needed to be done. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to crochet and in recent years, had taken up quilting. She especially enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren. She really went all out for holidays and made them very special for the grandchildren. Mrs. Vermillion was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Shaw. Wilma is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Shaw of Welda; two daughters, Tina Dudley of Shelby, MT, and Tamera Ostrander and husband Jeremy of Glenwood, IA: her son, Travis Vermillion of Kincaid; her step daughter, Teena Lutz and her husband Gerald of Garnett; her sisters, Melvina Jones and husband Charlie of Potwin, and Shirley Shaw of Welda; her grandchildren, Tyisha and Shanae Fonder and Chase Dudley of Shelby, MT, Reiny, Colby, Bailey, and Kord Ostrander of Glenwood, IA, Codi Vermillion of Kincaid, and Hadley and Cassidy Lutz of Garnett; one grandchild expected later in 2006; one nephew, Craig Jones of Papillion, NE; and a special cousin, LaJune Bodenhamer and husband Glen of Garnett. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art' and 'One Day At A Time'. Casketbearers were Jeremy Ostrander, Gerald Lutz, Craig Jones, Mark Wilson, Mark Peters, and Wes Orzechowski. Honorary casketbearers were Charlie Jones, Glen Bodenhamer, and Jesse Minkler. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wilma Vermillion Memorial Fund with the beneficiary to be named later. "Elva Cleo Knight 1914-2006 Funeral services for Elva Cleo Knight, 91, Coeur d'Alene, ID, were Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Blue Mound Methodist Church. Interment was in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound. Mrs. Knight died Friday, September 29, at LaCrosse Health and Rehabilitation Center in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Elva Cleo Knight was born November 15, 1914, at Blue Mound, the daughter of Oliver and Eva (Prevost) Lake. She grew up and lived in Blue Mound before moving to Beeler, KS, in 1957. She returned to Blue Mound in 1968. She moved to Ottawa in July 1988, to Topeka in 1991, and to Dighton, KS, in 2000. In 2002, Elva moved to Idaho to be near her daughter, Wilma. She graduated from Blue Mound High School with the Class of 1932 and attended several sessions of cooking school in her later years while working as a school cook. Elva was a homemaker and farmed with her husband until they retired in 1973. She also worked 11 years as school cook for the Beeler School District from 1957 until 1968. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Ottawa, and was a former member of the Prairie Valley Sewing Circle and N.E.W. Club at Centerville. Elva and Albert H. Knight were married March 14, 1940, at Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1976. Mrs. Knight was also preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Winsett and Eva Josephine (Prevost) Lake; her brother, Oliver Lake; her sister, Helen Rudisill; and her grandsons, Ronnie Schmalzried and Chris Wayne Hampson. Elva is survived by her daughters, Virginia Lee Schmalzried of Topeka, Wilma Alberta Hampson of Rathdrum, ID, and Navella Mae Richey of Topeka; her son, Charles Winsett Knight of Fairbands, AK; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, her sisters, Thelma Mata of Kansas City, KS, and Mary Yoakum of Blue Mound; and her brother, Henry Lake of Blue Mound.
