October 27, 2006 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 10, No. 83 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 5, Column 4: "Christopher Stephen Whitcomb 1973-2006 Funeral services for Christopher Stephen Whitcomb, 33, Moran, were Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church, Kincaid, with Pastors John Sheehan and Lloyd Houk officiating. Interment was in Kincaid Cemetery. Mr. Whitcomb died Friday, October 20, from injuries he received in a one-vehicle accident north of his home east of Moran. Christopher Stephen Whitcomb was born October 3, 1973, at Iola, the son of John Douglas and Elizabeth Jane 'Janie' (Herynk) Whitcomb. He attended Elsmore Grade School and graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1992. He worked in Colorado as a guide for elk and deer hunts right after high school. He continued his passion for the outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. Steve was a foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad where he has worked for the past 11 years. He was currently president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of International Brotherhood of Teamsters Southwestern Local Lodge 345. Mr. Whitcomb was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Whitcomb; and his grandmother, Rachael Herynk. Steve is survived by his companion, Kim Cole and her daughter Kyley, of the home; his father, Doug Whitcomb of Moran; his brothers, Michael Whitcomb and Wesley Whitcomb, both of Moran; his sisters, Madgelyn Gordon of Blue Springs, MO, and Antoinette Whitcomb of Merriam; his grandparents, Rollin Herynk and John and Ruth Whitcomb, all of Kincaid; three nephews and four nieces. The family suggests memorials be made to the Christopher Stephen Whitcomb Memorial Fund. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, was in charge of arrangements."
