Mr. Nickelson died Thursday, November 9, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. John Lee Nickelson was born March 10, 1929, at Garnett, the son of Charles Monroe and Mary Martha 'Dolly' (Miller) Nickelson. He was a nearly lifelong resident of Anderson County, moving to Ottawa in 2002. For 33 years, Lee was employed by the Anderson County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1994. He attended the Cherry Street Wesleyan Church of Ottawa. Lee and Delma Jeannine were married October 14, 1956, at Ottawa. They shared 50 years of marriage together. She survives of their home. Mr. Nickelson was preceded in death by his son, Darrell Lee Nickelson; his parents, Charles and Dolly Nickelson; and his brother, Charles Ivan Nickelson. Lee is also survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Thompson and her husband Robert of Ottawa; his sons, David Charles Nickelson of Garnett and James Kevin Nickelson of Ottawa; his grandchildren, Brandi Lea Nickelson, Ethan Robert Thompson, Meghan Nicole Nickelson, and Erick Joshua Thompson, all of Ottawa; his step grandson, B.J. Rose of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial to the John Lee Nickelson Memorial Fund, which may be sent in care of Dengel and Son Mortuary, 235 South Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067, who was in charge of arrangements."
