Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Denney died Tuesday, November 28, at his home. Theodore Coleman Denney, Jr. was born August 17, 1935, at Rago, KS, the son of Theodore Coleman Denney, Sr., and Gladys Evangeline (Black) Denney. He was a landfill operator for Anderson County for several years. Mr. Denney was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Gladys Denney. Ted is survived by his daughter, Betty Ohmes and her husband Anthony of Baldwin City; his sons, Theodore Coleman Denney III of Baldwin City and Jerry Duane Denney of Topeka; his brother, Arthur Denney and his wife Elsie of Baldwin City; five grandchildren, including two granddaughters, Crystal Marie Ohmes and Brenda Dawn Denney. Casketbearers were Dennis O'Conner, Jerry Soules, Dale Humble, Robert Witt, Chris Fratiello, and Austin Trumble. Honorary casketbearers were Ted Denney III, Jerry Denney, Robert Dea Harrison, Arthur Denney, Anthony Ohmes, Everett Grant, and Fred Kellerman. Hiner, 35, Weston MO, were Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Vaughn Funeral Chapel in Weston. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. Mr. Hiner died Tuesday, November 28, at his home. Mark L. Hiner was born October 2, 1971, in North Kansas City, MO, the son of Jack Lee and Sandra Lou (Horseman) Hiner. He was a 1991 graduate of West Platte High School in Weston, where he enjoyed being manager, and lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. Mark was a past member of the Weston Jaycees, and attended the Salem Christian Church in Weston. He was currently a lead VSA for Hertz Rental in Kansas City, where he had worked for 12 years. Mr. Hiner was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Parker and Nellie Horseman; his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Arlene Hiner; and his uncle, John Horseman. Mark is survived by his parents, Jack and Sandra Hiner of Weston; his twin brother, John Hiner and his wife Carla of Kansas City, MO; his nephew, Parker Hiner; his aunts, Loretta Scott of Greeley, CO, and Nancye Artz of Gardner; his uncles, Bill Hiner of Olathe, William Horseman of Spokane, WA, Rex Hiner of Lamar, CO, David Horseman of Weston, Robert Hiner of Garnett, Scott Horseman of Clayton, NC, and Sam Hiner of Burlington. Page 5, Column 2: "Dorothy Spencer 1913-2006 Funeral services for Dorothy Spencer, 93, Westphalia, were Friday, December 1, 2006, at Mont Ida Church of the Brethren with Rev. Ken Davidson officiating. Interment was in Cherry Mound Cemetery, Westphalia. Mrs. Spencer died Tuesday, November 28, at Allen County Hospital, Iola. Dorothy Spencer was born Dorothy Gladys Colgin on August 30, 1913, on part of the Anderson Ranch in Allen County, Kansas, the daughter of Wilbern Ernest and Lydia Adeline (Addie) Colgin. Dorothy graduated grade school from Spring Branch, a rural school where all eight grades were taught. She graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1932. She attended the Pittsburg Teacher's College where she took the teachers examination and then began teaching school at Spring Branch, Allen County, in the fall of 1932. Byrl David Spencer and Dorothy were married on April 24, 1938 at the parsonage of the First Christian Church in Iola, Kansas. Their first home was located northeast of Gas City. In 1942, the bought their farm near Westphalia. Byrl died October 3, 1975. Dorothy lived in their home until her death. Dorothy was an active member of the Cherry Mound Church until it's closing. She then became a member of the Mont Ida Church of the Brethren, where she enjoyed the services and friends faithfully. She was also an active member of the Sunshine EHU, Homemakers Club, Cherry Mound Ladies Aid, the PTA as president, a project leader in 4-H, and an instructor in quilting for the Anderson County Extension Office. Dorothy took an active role in their farming activities, she tended a large garden and preserved and prepared the produce. Dorothy created beautiful needlework until her death. Her talents included sewing, quilting, embroidery, applique', needlepoint, crochet with yarn and thread, and candlewicking. She was also an expert on mending. Dorothy was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, friend and neighbor, and a Christian who lived her faith daily. She always contributed one hundred percent as she gave of herself to so many others. Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Harold and Wilbern 'Dib' Colgin, and one sister Ruby Parrish Honsky. Dorothy is survived by one daughter and two sons: Helen Elliss and husband Norman; Benjamin Spencer; Raymond Byrl Spencer and wife Patty, all of Westphalia, Kansas; eight grandchildren, David Byrl Elliss and wife Louise of Edgerton, Kansas; Dena McDaniel and husband Thane of Westphalia, Kansas; Darren Elliss and wife Rose of Westphalia, Kansas; Michael Spencer and wife Dana of Colony, Kansas; Alyson Rahn and husband Kevin of Shawnee, Kansas; Amy Burkdoll and husband Cody of Princeton, Kansas; Jason Byrl Spencer and wife Kimberly of Garnett, Kansas; and Denita Elliss of Olathe, Kansas; and eighteen great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; Grayce Spencer of Moran, Kansas, Doris Roe and husband, Billy, of LaHarpe, Kansas, Ruth Colgin of Colony, Kansas, Delma Nutz and husband Al, of Iola, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Glen Weldin of Colony, Kansas and many special nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Diane Ball, organist, and Teresa Keim and Ray Yoder, vocalists. Musical selections included 'Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus', 'In The Garden', and 'Good Night and Good Morning'. Page 5, Column 3: "Larry Lee Masenthin, Jr. 1973-2006 Funeral services for Larry Lee Masenthin, Jr., 33, Garnett, were Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Cremation followed the services, with inurnment at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, at Vassar Cemetery in Vassar, KS. Mr. Masenthin died Tuesday, November 28, at his home. Larry Lee Masenthin, Jr. was born April 10, 1973, at South Bend, IN, the son of Larry Lee Masenthin, Sr. and Rita Sue (Brecheisen) Masenthin. He grew up in Lyndon, graduating from Lyndon High school with the Class of 1991. While attending high school, he earned an automotive technology degree from Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia in 1991. He also lived in Melvern and Ottawa before moving to Garnett in 2004. He worked in maintenance and repairs in Garnett; five to six years at IBP in Emporia, Walmart Distribution in Garnett; on bridge construction, and at Melvern Grain Elevator. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar. He loved working with, training, and riding horses, and camping. Larry was a person who was always there to help others in need. Larry was united in marriage with Christi Hotchkiss. They were later divorced. On November 4, 2005, Larry was united in marriage with Lena Headrick at Burlington. She survives of their home. Mr. Masenthin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Albert and Carrie Masenthin; and a great-niece, Mikala Urrutia. Larry is also survived by his parents, Larry Lee Sr. and Rita Sue Masenthin of Lyndon; his son, Steven Jesse Masenthin of Melvern; his stepdaughters, Ashley Morgan of Melvern, and Allison Devoe of Hill City; his stepsons, Alex Morgan of Melvern, Keith Devoe of Garnett, and Codi Vermillion of Kincaid; his stepgrandson, Colton Wyatt of Hill City; his sister, Abie Masenthin of Tonganixie; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Echo and Jeff Bell of Quenemo, and Donna and Mike Keener of San Antonio, TX; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry Wayne and Connie Masenthin of Neosho Rapids; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Delores Brecheisen of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews.
