December 20, 2006 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 10, No. 97 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 5, Column 2: "Charles Eugene Wells 1933-2006 Funeral services for Charles Eugene Wells, 73, Garnett, were Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Judy Brown officiating. Interment was in Welda Cemetery. Mr. Wells died Friday, December 15, at Anderson County Hospital. Charles Eugene Wells was born December 8, 1933, at Lyons, KS, the son of Marlin R. and Ethelda Mae (Fergueson) Wells. He graduated in May of 1952 from Waverly High School. He married Marie Rollins and to this union was born two daughters, Doris and Theresa. They later divorced. Charles and Mary Ruth Hintz were married December 13, 1959, at Wichita. To this union two sons, Scott and Steven, and one daughter, Cynthia were born. He served eight years in the National Guard. Mr. Wells worked as a truck driver, worked at the Garnett Power Plant, and for the last 17 years as a bail bondsman. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Garnett. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He enjoyed the last two summers having his granddaughter, Mackayla, being his right-hand helper. He very much enjoyed playing his drums in high school and playing in the National Guard as a Drum Corpsman, and in the Assembly of God Church band. Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his sons, Scott Wells in 1979 and Steve Wells in 1989; and his parents, Marlin and Ethelda Wells. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; his daughter, Cynthia Wells and his granddaughter, Mackayla Wells of Garnett; daughter Doris Ann Land and husband Don of Linwood, and one grandson, Joshua Ruff of Texas; daughter Theresa Graham and husband, Bob, granddaughter Michelle Billam and Grandson Robert Graham, Jr. all of Topeka; and three great-grandsons. Music was provided by Pam McSwane, organist. Musical selections included congregational hymns 'I'll Fly Away' and 'Victory In Jesus', 'I Can Only Imagine' sung by Rev. Roland Bell. Casketbearers were John Rendell, Shane Holloway, Chris Myers, James Kyle, Roger Mace, and Todd Shultz. Honorary casketbearers were Albert Mace, Hanford Workman, Bill Brown, Grover Shultz, Paul Herrington, and Harold Hermann. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements."
