Shellhorn 1941-2002 Memorial services for Doris M. Shellhorn 61, Westphalia, KS, were Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Shellhorn died December 13, 2002, at her residence. Doris M. Shellhorn was born March 17, 1941, at Fall City, NE, the daughter of Harry and Elta Mae (Snyder) Strough. She had lived in the Westphalia area for the past fifteen years. Doris was a doll maker and was owner/operator of Country Gal Doll Shop in Garnett. Doris and Richard Shellhorn were married May 25, 1990, at Dodge City, KS. Mrs. Shellhorn is survived by her husband, Richard Shellhorn, Westphalia; her son, Bob Sortore, Kansas City, KS; her daughter, Sharon Marie Sortore, Kansas City, MO; her brothers, Ronnie Strough, Kansas City, KS, and Kenneth Strough, Jonesboro, IL; her sisters, Vivian Ryburn, Kansas City, KS, Joyce McDaniel, Bonner Springs, KS, and Barbara Strough, Kansas City, KS; and three grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Gary Benjamin, soloist. Musical selections included “Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”. Jones 1936-2002 Funeral services for Roscoe Jones, 66, Garnett, were Monday, December 23, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Pastor Judy Brown and Pastor Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Uniontown Cemetery, Uniontown, KS. Mr. Jones died December 19, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Roscoe E. Jones was born June 24, 1936, at Uniontown, KS, the son of Amel Roscoe and Georgie Blanche (Willis) Jones. He lived his adult life in the Garnett area and was a farmer/stockman. Mr. Jones is survived by his sons, Sheldon Jones and Tim Jones, Garnett; his daughters, Sherry Jones, Garnett, and Lori Johnson, Cummins, GA; his sister, Ronda McCollam, Independence, MO; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Music was provided by Pam McSwane, pianist, and Bertha Linson, soloist. Casketbearers are Jim Cox, Harold Evans, Wes Grosdidier, Ed LaRue, Jerry McAfee, Willis Miller, Clyde Moore, and Alan Woodson. Kenneth Edwards 1927-2002 Graveside services and interment for C. Kenneth Edwards, 75, Ottawa, KS, were Saturday, December 21, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, KS, with Rev. Harriet Bechtle officiating. Mr. Edwards died December 17, 2002, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. C. Kenneth Edwards was born June 3, 1927, at Lawrence, KS, the son of Clyde B. and Edith (Vance) Edwards. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Edwards was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa. He worked part-time for the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center and did volunteer work for the Salvation Army. He was an accountant for a Lawrence furniture store for more than thirty years. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde B. and Edith Eawards; and two brothers, Lawrence Edwards and an infant, Clyde Vance Edwards. Kenneth is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Greathouse, Iola, KS; and his nephews and niece, Stan Edwards, Kearny, MO, Jim Greathouse, Iola, KS, and Susie Collins, Iola, KS. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Leo W. Katzer 1918-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Leo W. Katzer, 84, Garnett, was Saturday, December 21, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with Father George Matz and Father Tony Blaufuss as concelebrants. Interment was in Holy Angels Cemetery. Mr. Katzer died December 18 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS. Leo W. Katzer was born June 2, 1918, to Adolph and Catherine (Kueser) Katzer. He served his country with the United States Army. Leo was a farmer/cattle rancher. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knight of Columbus, a member and past president of Garnett VFW Memorial Post 6397, and was a member of the American Simmental Association, Anderson County District #19, and N.F.O. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and playing cards-especially pitch. Leo and Elizabeth Anne Clark were married March 21, 1942, at Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Katzer was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Katzer, on December 4, 2002; a granddaughter, Bridget Platt; a grandson, Anthony Katzer; his parents, Adolph and Catherine Katzer; his brothers, Frank Katzer, Bernard ‘Bus’ Katzer, and Art Katzer; and his sisters, Mary Hastert, Agnes Lickteig, and Marge Rockers. Leo is survived by his sons, Bill Katzer and his wife, Sonie, Boulder, CO, Jim Katzer, Garnett, Jerry Katzer, DVM and his wife, Ronda, Creston, IA, Ben Katzer, Loveland, CO; and Ray Katzer and his wife, Tina, Hutchinson, KS; his daughters, JoAnne Platt and her husband, Gene, Roeland Park, KS, and LaNell Hager and her husband, Ron, Linn Creek, MO; his brother, Clarence Katzer, Greeley, KS; his sister, Jean Livingston, Garnett; nineteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Sue Hardman, organist, and The Rockers Family, Leo’s nieces and nephews, as vocalists. Musical selections included “Prayer to St. Francis”, “Be Not Afraid”, “You Are Mine”, “Silent Night”, and “America the Beautiful”. Casketbearers were his grandsons, David Platt, Ryan Platt, Chris Katzer, Michael Hager, Sean Platt, Tim Platt, Nathan Katzer, and Alex Katzer. Honorary casketbearers were World War II veterans John Eckert, Delmar Neubauer, and his brother, Clarence Katzer. Lectors were his granddaughters, Kate Kettler, Melissa Gatlin, Rachel Vogel, Jessica Katzer, and Stacey Oldfield. Servers were Leo’s grandsons, Sam Katzer, Brian Katzer, and Nick Katzer. Gift Bearers were granddaughters Becky Katzer, Sarah Katzer, and Jami Katzer. Eucharistic minister was Darlene Thompson. The family received friends on Friday, December 20, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Wake Service at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels School, which may be left in care of the funeral home.
