Mader 1908-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn B. Mader, 93, Garnett, was Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with Father George Matz officiating. Lector was Ivan Mader. Giftbearers were Ashley Mader and Denise Pickett. Interment was in Holy Angels Cemetery. Mrs. Mader died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Kathryn B. Mader was born November 25, 1908, near Richmond, KS, the daughter of Valentine and Johanna (Hastert) Bures. She was a homemaker. Katie was an avid bowler and card player. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and Altar Society. Katie and Mark Mader were married April 14, 1931, at Scipio, KS. Mrs. Mader was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Mader, in 1981; three sons, Loren Mader, in 1966, Mark Mader, Jr., in 1990, and Kenneth Mader, in 1997; two sisters, Emma Malburg and Geneva Bures; and six brothers, Lambert Bures, Peter Bures, Edward Bures, Matthew Bures, Joseph Bures, and John Bures. Katie is survived by her sons, Clyde Mader and his wife, Sandy, Shawnee, KS, and Gail Mader and his wife, Teri, Garnett; two daughters, Carol Lee Chezem and her husband, Tom, Ketchum, OK, and Patty Platt, Aiken, SC; her daughter-in-law, Dixie Mader, Garnett; her sisters, Clara Powell, Garnett, Anna Marie Gretencord, Richmond, KS, Doris Hicks, Garnett; and Evelyn Pontious, Medford, Or; nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Sharon Mader, organist, and Katie’s nieces and nephews, vocalists. Musical selections included ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘On This Day, O Beautiful Mother’, ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘Be Not Afraid’, and ‘You Are Mine’. Casketbearers were Coy Chezem, Curt Mader, Eric Mader, Craig Mader, Dan Mader, and Doug Platt. Rosary was said Monday, July 15, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Church Building Fund. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Nell (Wood) Selanders 1907-2002 Funeral services for Nell (Wood) Selanders, 94, Parsons, KS, were Monday, July 15, 2002, at First Christian Church, Parsons, with Revs. Mark Young, Robert Bown, and Alvin Daetwiler officiating. Interment was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Parsons. Mrs. Selanders died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had resided the past several years. Nell (Wood) Selanders was born August 30, 1907, at Louisburg, KS, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Bodenhamer) Wood. She graduated from Louisburg High School and from Ottawa Business College. In her early adult years, she worked as a receptionist in the office of an Ottawa physician and then as bookkeeper at Stone Chevrolet Company, Ottawa. Nell and Marion M. Selanders were married June 19, 1938, at Chanute, KS. Because of his employment with the Sinclair Pipeline Company (later Atlantic Richfield), they lived in various places for a number of years. They lived in Ottawa until 1950, in Paola from 1950-1953, in Olney, TX, from 1953-1959, in Toledo, OH, from 1959-1962, and in Pontiac, IL, from 1962-1964. In 1964, they moved to Humboldt, where they lived until moving to Parsons in October, 1991. Mrs. Selanders was a member of the First Christian Church of Parsons and had belonged to the Disciples of Christ churches in the various places she had resided. In earlier years, she taught Sunday School to young children and participated in the Menniger Bible Classes. She loved her family and home and took pride in her job as a homemaker. Mrs. Selanders was preceded in death by her husband, Marion M. Selanders, on August 15, 1997; her son, Donald Jay Selanders, on December 17, 1947; two brothers, R.O. (Ola) Wood and Wilbur Wood; and a sister, Vera Gardner. Nell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gary Wall, Parsons; her grandchildren, Katherine Wall, Kansas City, MO, Emily (Wall) Brown and her husband, Justin, Parsons, KS, and Ned Wall, Parsons, KS; her brother, Earl Wood and his wife, Maxine, Louisburg, KS; and nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Sunday, July 14, 2002, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Parsons.
