Waring 1914-2002 A memorial service for the family and friends of Burt W. Waring, 88, Garnett, will be Friday, August 16, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Garnett First United Methodist Church. Mr. Waring died Wednesday, August 14, 2002. Burt W. Waring was born June 29, 1914, at El Reno, OK, the son of Burt and Mary (Gettler) Waring. He grew up in Joplin, MO, and Pleasanton, KS. Burt and Ruth Saunders were married November 25, 1936, at Pleasanton, KS, and established their home in Butler, MO, where he worked for Bond Baking Company. Burt served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II and in the Kansas National Guard. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. On his return from active service, Burt and Ruth established their home in Pleasanton, where he served on the school board as a member and president, and was active in the Boy Scouts. Burt worked for several years in the Saunders’ grocery business, and in 1956 he joined Murray Limestone (later McAdams Limestone). In 1958, the business transferred him to Garnett, where he was active in the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Waring was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Ruth; a son, Kenton, who died in infancy; his parents, Burt and Mary Waring; and three sisters, Margaret Garner, Rosalia Meehan, and Mary Livingston. Burt is survived by his children, Dennis and wife, Judy, Davis, CA, Herburt and wife, Kathy, Garnett, KS, Patrick and wife, Elizabeth Brown, Manassas, VA, and Mary McCallister and husband, Gary, Winnetka, IL. Burt also leaves behind his dearly loved grandchildren, Sarah, Beth, and Kevin Waring and Marc and Kathryn McCallister. Also surviving are a brother, J.P. Waring, Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Gweneth Rogers, East Lansing, MI, and Billie White, Farmington, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burt will be lovingly remembered as a gentle but high-spirited, endearingly stubborn, and fun-loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Midland Hospice Care or First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, is in charge of arrangements.” “Hildred M. Bures 1907-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Hildred M. Bures, 94, Garnett, is Saturday, August 17, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett. Interment is in St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, KS. Mrs. Bures died Tuesday, August 13, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Hildred M. Bures was born October 7, 1907, in Anderson County, KS, the daughter of Fred and Helena (Bach) Brummel. She was a member of Holy Angels Church, the Altar Society, Hospital Auxiliary, Junction Needlework Club, and High Point Sewing Club. She was an avid dancer and card player. Hildred and Peter D. Bures were married February 10, 1931, at Garnett. Mrs. Bures was preceded in death by her husband, Peter D. Bures; an infant son, Robert Peter Bures; a daughter, Norma Waldon; her parents, Fred and Helena Brummel; a brother, Elmer Brummel; and three sisters, Evelyn Roecker, Dorothy Mader, and Marcella Mader. Hildred is survived by her children, Dale Bures and his wife, Grace, Duluth, MN, Lloyd Bures and his wife, Marikay, Richmond, KS, Glen Bures and his wife, Cheryl, Richmond, KS, Dorothy Swartz and her husband, Ken, Peculiar, MO, Eula Park and her husband, Jim, Kansas City, KS, Myrna Nicholson and her husband, Tom, Round Rock, TX, and Diane McNicoll and her husband, John, Troy, MI; two sisters, Agnes Mader, Garnett, and Florence Lickteig, Greeley, KS; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. The family will receive friends following the Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2002, at Holy Angels Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holy Angels Building Fund, which may be left in care of the funeral home. Holderman, 81, Garnett, were Thursday, August 15, 2002, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Centerville Cemetery, Centerville, KS. Mrs. Holderman died Monday, August 12, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Doris L. Holderman was born May 16, 1921, in Linn County, KS, the daughter of William Morton and Rosalie (Burke) Jackson. She was the fourteenth of fifteen children. As a child, she attended the Wall Street and Blue Mound schools. Doris and Lester (Pete) Holdermen were married December 14, 1938, in Garnett. They started their life together in Linn County. Two children were born to this union, Richard Wayne and Sharon Lee. Doris and Lester owned and operated restaurants in Garnett for more than thirty-three years. She attended the First Christian Church in Garnett. She was an avid antique collector for many years and enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. Some of her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her greatest passions was cooking Sunday dinner for her entire family. Doris is survived by her husband, Lester, of Garnett; a son, Richard Holderman and his wife, Lucille, Centerville, KS; a daughter, Sharon Sumner and her husband, Butch, Garnett; two grandsons, Richie Holderman and his wife, Deb, Garnett, and Jason Sumner and his wife, Mary, Garnett; two granddaughters, Jodi Hickman and her husband, Matt, Stillwell, KS, and Lynn Bandyk and her husband, Alan, Paola, KS; six great-grandchildren, Chris, Lauren, Lyndsey, Haley, Austin, and Jenna; two sisters, Maxine Giffin, Garnett, and Marjorie Dugger, Green Valley, AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family and a host of friends will sadly miss Doris. Music was provided by Jon Covault, pianist, and Sherl Urquhart, soloist. Musical selections included “Old Rugged Cross”, “Amazing Grace”, and “On Eagles Wings”. Casketbearers were Richie Holderman, Jason Sumner, Chris Holderman, Chuck Stanley, Matt Hickman, and Alan Bandyk. The family received friends Wednesday, August 14, 2002, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Garnett Senior Center.
