Ewing 1924-2002 Funeral services for Everett E. Ewing, 78, Ottawa, KS, were Monday, August 19, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa, with Rev. William Weber and Pastor Jon Boyd officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, KS. Mr. Ewing died Friday, August 16, 2002, at his residence. Everett E. Ewing was born May 17, 1924, at Moran, KS, the son of John Franklin and Flony (Richards) Ewing. He started school in Thayer, KS, then attended LaHarpe schools. A long time Franklin County, KS, resident, he moved to Ottawa in 1954 from the Princeton area, where he had lived since 1952, moving from Iola. Everett was employed as a mechanic with Raymond Shields Implement in Ottawa for thirty years and worked at Ransom Memorial Hospital as a power plant engineer for fourteen years, retiring in April, 1986, due to ill health. He had also farmed for three years from 1947 to 1950, and worked on the Santa Fe Railroad tracks for several years until 1954. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. Everett and Cleta Mary Stanford were married June 15, 1942, in Garnett, KS. Mr. Ewing was preceded in death by his son, William Franklin Ewing; his parents, John Franklin and Flony Ewing; his brothers, Ernest Ewing, Raymond Ewing, Ralph Ewing, John Ewing, and Leonard Ewing; his sisters, Cordia Smith, Vina Ewing, Flossie Ewing, and Violet McCullough. Everett is survived by his wife, Cleta Mary Ewing, Ottawa, KS; and many nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Sunday, August 18, 2002, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Maxine Reed, 86, Ottawa, KS, are Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, with Pastor Steven Iwerson officiating. Mrs. Reed died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa. E. Maxine Reed was born November 18, 1915, at Quenemo, KS, the daughter of Joseph Franklin and Clara Francis (Mumma) Elliott. She grew up in Richmond, KS, and moved to Ottawa in 1934. She attended Richmond High School with the Class of 1933. Maxine was a life long homemaker. She was also an Avon representative for twenty-five years, retiring in November, 1990. She was a member of the Ottawa Free Methodist Church. She also attended the Ottawa Church of the Nazarene and the Ottawa Assembly of God. Maxine and Ernest Raymond Reed were married April 23, 1934, at Ottawa. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Raymond Reed, on March 27, 1988; her parents, Joseph Franklin and Clara Francis Elliott; her son, Terry Elliott Reed; a grandson, Scott R. Marks; her brothers, George Elliott, Sr., Chester Elliott, Garland Elliott, Cecil Elliott, and Earl Elliott; and her sisters, Pauline Sims and Mildred Elliott. Maxine is survived by her daughters, Connie Marks, Olathe, KS, and Paulette Carlson, McLouth, KS; her grandchildren, Michael Marks, Shelley Marks, Bradley Carlson, and Jason Carlson; her great-grandchildren, Abbigayle Carlson, Adam Carlson, Zoe Pulford, Samantha Marks, Dawson Marks, and Mason Carlson; and her sisters-in-law, Helen Reed, Sacramento, CA, and Peg Smith, Lyndon, KS. Hilda Helen Pickert was born January 22, 1911, in Anderson County, KS, the daughter of Herman Albert and Mary (Brummel) Hermreck. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was a Third Order member of the Carmelites. Hilda and Fred J. Pickert were married November 18, 1930, at Scipio, KS. Mrs. Pickert was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Pickert; and her parents, Herman Albert and Mary Hermreck. Hilda is survived by her sons, Kenneth Pickert, Wayne, PA, Gerald Pickert, Richmond, KS, and Leon Pickert, Lawrence, KS; her daughters, Rosalie Waner, Lawrence, KS, Elaine Kruse, Olathe, KS, and Betty McArdle, Lawrence, KS; her brother, Lee Hermreck, Ottawa, KS; her sister, Erma Bartholomew, Naples, FL; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends following the Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at the funeral home. (Olberding) Davis. He was a lifetime resident of Topeka. Mr. Harris is survived by his sons, Cain Martin Harris and Damien Ryan Harris, both of Topeka; his parents, James E. and Susan R.
