Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Wellsville Baptist Church. Visitation was 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, August 27, at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Burial followed services at the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions made to the Wellsville Baptist Church or Olathe Hospice, in care of the funeral home. Everett Lee McGinnis, son of Everett Jewell and Mary Ann (VanHercke) McGinnis was born May 8, 1918 at Boicourt, Linn County, KS, and departed this life August 25, 2002. He grew up on the family farm near Boicourt, Linn County, KS. He attended grade school in the Oak Grove district and high school at Pleasanton, KS. On June 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Earline Lingwood at Pleasanton. To this union, two children were born, Donald Lee and Sharon Elizabeth. They resided on a farm near Pleasanton until 1954 where Lee was engaged in a farm implement agency. In 1954, they purchased a grocery store in Ulysses, KS. They later returned to Garnett, where they owned and operated a grocery store for eighteen years and a recreational vehicle sales for eight years. Lee gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized in the Marais Des Cygne River at Trading Post, KS, in 1938. While living in Garnett, he became a member of the Garnett Baptist Church and later the Wellsville Baptist Church. He was a faithful follower of the Lord, and was a wonderful, warm, loving husband, father, and grandfather, known to his grandchildren as ‘Gramps’. His great-grandchildren knew him as ‘Pappy’. Mr. McGinnis was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Jewell and Mary Ann McGinnis. Lee is survived by his wife, Earline, of the home; his son, Don, Michigan Valley, KS: his daughter, Sheri, and husband, Joe, Mound City, KS; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Lee loved being with people and made friends wherever he went. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him so much.
