Gary Benjamin officiating. Mr. Berry died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at his home. Darrel Berry was born May 25, 1914, at Cullison, KS, the son of William Oscar and Phoebe (Hadsell) Berry. He graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. Darrel had lived in Garnett for the last thirty-two years and was the general manager of Garnett Savings and Loan before his retirement. He was a member of Garnett United Methodist Church, Mirza Temple of Pittsburg, KS, Kansas York Rite, Hutchinson, KS, Kansas York Rite, Kingman, KS, Garnett Masonic Lodge Delphian Lodge #44, Garnett Country Club, and was past president of Garnett Rotary Club. Darrel and Julia I. Orton were married August 8, 1937, at Hotchkiss, CO. Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Julia Berry, Garnett; his sons, Phil Berry and his wife, Darla, Lenexa, KS, and Steve Berry and his wife, Terri, Overland Park, KS; his sister, Vera Huff, Preston, KS; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Robrahn, 76, Ottawa, KS, were Saturday, October 5, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa. Interment was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, Burlington, KS. Mrs. Robrahn died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, KS. Virginia L. Robrahn was born July 13, 1926, at Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Frank Hunter and Berva Elma (Willis) Harvey. She grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Paseo High School in 1943. She later received a B.E. Degree from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, with a major in biology and a minor in social science. On February 14, 1947, Virginia was united in marriage to Vance Max Robrahn in Burlington, KS. They shared over fifty-five years of married life together. After their marriage, they resided in Burlington from 1947-1960. In 1960, they moved to Kansas City, KS, where she taught at Turner Elementary School until 1968. Her family moved to Ottawa in 1968 and she began teaching at Ottawa Junior High School, and later Ottawa High School, teaching biology, science, American history, and American government until 1977. She worked for two years as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, then became an income maintenance worker for Kansas SRS in 1980. She worked in the Ottawa SRS office from 1980 until her retirement in 1988. Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa, where she was a member of Outreach Circle and the United Methodist Women. She was also a longtime member of the PEO Sisterhood, having current membership in Chapter CY in Kansas City, KS. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, and the beauty of the outdoors and wildlife. Mrs. Robrahn was preceded in death by an infant son, Vance Max Robrahn II, on June 18, 1955; and her parents, Frank and Berva Harvey. Virginia is survived by her husband, Vance Robrahn, of the home; her daughters, Vanessa J. Palmer and her husband, Bob, Kincaid, KS, and Vanncele J. Pearson and her husband, Greg, Lecompton, KS; one sister, Barbara J. Hart, Altamonte Springs, FL; four grandchildren, Brandon Palmer and his wife, Heather, Dustin Palmer, Amy Marshall and her husband, Mike; and Rhiannon Pearson; and three great-grandchildren, Lane Palmer, Colton Palmer, and Mackenzie Marshall. Lamb-Roberts, Heise Funeral Home, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 3, Column 3: “Gerald Michael ‘Jerry’ Peterson 1955-2002 Gerald Michael ‘Jerry’ Peterson, 47, Topeka, KS, died Monday, September 30, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born July 4, 1955, at Garnett, KS, the son of Carroll Lars Peterson and Rita Ann (Lickteig) Peterson. He grew up in Greeley, KS, graduating from Garnett High School in 1973, after which he attended and graduated from Kansas State University, where he played football from 1973-1978. After college, he moved to Topeka, where he was currently residing. Jerry worked as a field producer for several television series, and was an executive producer of a feature film. His work took him to many locations in the United States and around the globe. The most recent project he worked on was a public service announcement that was a memorial to 9/11 entitled ‘United Day of Service—Champions of Hope’, which played in 5,001 movie theaters nationwide and was broadcast on all four major television networks. His television projects included production, camera, and sound work and/or acting in television shows such as the ‘Real Stories of the Highway Patrol’, ‘Bounty Hunter’, ‘Wild Things’, ‘Arrest and Trial’, and ‘Unsolved Mysteries’. He was currently working on independent film and screen writing projects. He was involved for several years in the performing arts, performing in the Topeka Civic Theater and had performed in the Metropolitan Ballet of Topeka. He also appeared in local television commercials. He was a member of the Kansas Fencing Team that competed in the 1992 Olympic Trials. He had worked as a realtor in Topeka. He also maintained an interest in farming and Rocky Mountain Horse breeding. Jerry is survived by his parents, Carroll and Rita Peterson, Greeley, KS; two brothers, Bill and wife, Colette, Ovilla, TX, and Bob and wife, Phyllis, Overland Park, KS; five sisters, Patricia Wine and husband, Sam, Madison, KS, Jane Ledell and husband, Bertil, McPherson, KS, Judy Beydler and husband, Calvin, San Diego, CA, Cathy Estes and husband, Michael, Caney, KS, and Mary Jo Pillow and husband, Elbert, Gardner, KS. His friend Carol Lawson, Topeka, KS; eight nephews, Taylor Wine, Jesse Peterson, Trent, Andrew, and Landon Peterson, Christopher McCowan, Ashley Pillow, and Jonathan Estes; eight nieces, Janetta Ledell, Shari Wine, Nicole Criscione, Rebecca and Jennifer Peterson, and Michelle, Caitlin, and Rachel Estes; and one great-niece, Anabelle Criscione, also survive him. Yost, 58, Ottawa, KS, were Monday, September 30, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Rev. Harriet Bechtle officiating. Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Yost died Thursday, September 26, 2002, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Jerry W. Yost was born July 11, 1944, at Tulsa, OK, the son of Harold and Ruth (Klingler) Yost. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident He was custodian for U.S.D. 290 and U.S.D. 287. Previously, he had been employed at Bendix Mobile Homes and Wolf Creek Power Plant. Jerry was a twenty-five year member of the National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in units in Ottawa, Paola, and Garnett, retiring in 1997. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa and was a member of the Ottawa Bowling Association. Jerry and Diana Burns were married June 28, 1969, at Ottawa. They later divorced. On March 4, 1995, Jerry was united in marriage with Janice Roehl at Ottawa. Mr. Yost was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Yost. Jerry is survived by his wife, Janice, Ottawa, KS; his daughter, Sheri (Yost) Morgan, Ottawa, KS; his stepson, Wayne Paul, Loveland, CO; his stepdaughters, Nancy Paul, Goose Creek, SC, and Karen Armstrong, Ottawa, KS; his sisters, Lois Jean Ashworth, Ottawa, KS, and Janice McFadden, Grove, OK; his brother, Edwin L. Oswald 1937-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Marjorie D. (Roeckers) Oswald was September 9, 2002, at Christ the King Church, Kansas City, MO. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Greeley, KS. Mrs. Oswald died September 7, 2002, at a Kansas City hospital. Marjorie D. Oswald was born June 12, 1937, at Richmond, KS, the second of six children of John and Evelyn Roeckers. Marjorie graduated from Richmond High School in 1955 and from Kansas State University with a degree in home economics in 1960. Before her college graduation, she had been an International Farm Youth Exchange student to Brazil, one of the results of her extensive 4-H career. On June 15, 1960, Marjorie was united in marriage with Donald D. Oswald. She served as Home Economics Extension Agent in Wabaunsee County until they moved to Kansas City. A member of Christ the King Church for forty years, Marjorie worked in nearly every facet of the church and was an active member of many organizations, including Diocean Council of Catholic Women, O’Hara High School Board, Cub and Webelos Scouts, Western Hills Garden Club, and others. She had also been a preschool teacher at the church school. Marjorie had a lifelong love and devotion for the Rosary and worked tirelessly promoting the devotion through the Word Apostalate of Fatima and personal interactions. She retained an interest in her hometown and returned every year since her marriage to have entries in the fair, was a judge for many years, and help in other ways. Surviving in addition to her husband, Don, are four sons, David Oswald and his wife, Marian, Lee’s Summit, MO, Howard Oswald and his wife, Loretta, Bartlesville, OK, Norman Oswald and his wife, Julie, Kansas City, MO, and John Oswald and his wife, Marlo, Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; a brother, Delbert Roeckers, Reedsburg, WI; and three sisters, Iona Sobba, Garnett, Sister Loretta Roeckers, Richmond, KS, and Joan Chambers, Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Roeckers; and a brother Donald Roeckers.
