Paradise 1912-2002 Graveside services and interment for Billie J. Paradise, 90, Kincaid, KS, were Thursday, October 10, 2002, at Kincaid Cemetery with Pastor Lee Bahney officiating. Mr. Paradise died October 7, 2002, at Moran Manor, Moran, KS. Billie J. Paradise was born July 31, 1912, at Kincaid, KS, the son of John I. and Edna (Utley) Paradise. He graduated from Kincaid High School and was a farmer and stockman all his life. He enjoyed hunting coyotes with his trail hounds, raising cattle, and attending rodeos. He quit farming when his health began to decline. Billie and Oma Pliphant were married September 25, 1935. Mr. Paradise was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Paradise; his parents, John I. and Edna Paradise, and an infant brother. There is no surviving family. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church Building Fund. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, is in charge of arrangements.” “Leonard L. Burgoon 1916-2002 Graveside services and interment for Leonard L. Burgoon, 86, Ottawa, KS, were Saturday, October 5, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, KS, with Pastor Steven Iwersen officiating. Military honors were by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901. Mr. Burgoon died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa. Leonard L. Burgoon was born June 16, 1916, the son of Issac and Maynetta (Storm) Burgoon. He graduated from Rantoul High School with the Class of 1934. He was a lifelong resident of the Rantoul and Ottawa area. Mr. Burgoon served with the United States Army from December, 1942, to November, 1945, during World War II. His tour of duty included Central Europe, Rhineland, Rome, Normandy, Naples, and Northern France. He received decorations and citations including the European Theater Ribbon with one Silver Service Star, one Bronze Service Star, and one Bronze Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He worked as a plumber for Carey Plumbing in Ottawa and later for Norris Brothers in Lawrence, and for other plumbing contractors over the years. Leonard was initiated into membership of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union #763 on May 19, 1950, and was also a member of the Ottawa Saddle Club. Leonard and Goldie Beatrice ‘Betty’ Hellman were married at Garnett on September 22, 1937. Mr. Burgoon was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Beatrice ‘Betty’ Burgoon on December 16, 1996; his son, Jerry Burgoon; an infant daughter, Shirley Burgoon; his parents, Issac and Maynetta Burgoon; his brothers, Arthur Burgoon, William Burgoon, Roy Burgoon, and Cifford Burgoon; and his sisters, Beulah Burgoon and Elise Sopher. Leonard is survived by his niece, Donna Mallicoat, Ottawa, KS; his granddaughter, Cherie Tucker, Ottawa, KS; his great-grandchildren, Ariel Tucker, Alexzander Tucker, and Avery Tucker; his sister-in-law, Mary Burgoon; and many other nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, before proceeding to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation.
