Interment was in Lone Elm Cemetery, Lone Elm, KS. Mrs. Chandler died October 17, 2002, at Allen County Hospital, Iola, KS. Julia Frances Chandler was born July 20, 1913, at Colony, KS, the only child of John E. and Hannah M. (Haney) Powell. She grew up at Colony and graduated from Colony High School in 1930. Julia and Roland K. Chandler were married January 6, 1931. They made their home in Lone Elm and Kincaid until moving to LaHarpe in 1946. They lived in Ramona, KS, for a short time until her husband’s death in 1955, at which time the family moved back to LaHarpe. In recent years, she has lived in Iola, residing at Tara Gardens at the time of her death. She worked at the LaHarpe Post Office where she was a clerk, Assistant Post Master, and Post Master. She later worked as Treasurer of the City of LaHarpe. After she retired, Julia was called back to work part-time at the Iola Post Office. She was an active member of the LaHarpe United Methodist Church, where she played the piano. She was a fifty-year member of the LaHarpe and Moran Order of the Eastern Star. She also played the piano for many weddings and funerals. Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, Roland K. Chandler; a grandson, David Chandler; and a son-in-law, Martin ‘Pete’ Werner. Julia is survived by her sons, Orville Chandler and his wife, Georgia, Eagle Rock, MO, and Wayne Chandler and his wife, Nancy, Moran, KS; her daughters, Leona Werner, Chanute, KS, Linda Call and her husband, Ron, Yates Center, KS, and Sharon Utley and her husband, Larry, Iola, KS; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to LaHarpe United Methodist Church or the Moran Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel, Iola, KS, was in charge of arrangements.” “Arlene Ewing 1953-2002 Funeral services for Arlene Ewing, 49, Richmond, KS, were Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, KS, with Rev. Steve Van Ostran officiating. Committal services were held at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, KS. Mrs. Ewing died Saturday, October 12, 2002, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Arlene Ewing was born October 12, 1953, at Garnett, KS, the daughter of Alvin and Dora (Helmuth) Beachy. She was a lifelong Garnett resident and had been employed as a Certified Medical Assistant at several Garnett nursing homes. Arlene was a member of The Jehovah’s Witness Church of Garnett. Arlene and Dennis Ewing were married July 29, 1993, at Garnett. Mrs. Ewing was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Beachy. Arlene is survived by her husband, Dennis Ewing, Ottawa, KS; her mother, Dora Beachy, Garnett; her sisters, Le Ann DeVoe, Iola, KS, Charlotte Miller, North Carolina, Viola Hamilton, South Carolina, and Martha Beachy, Topeka, KS; her brothers, Elmer Beachy and Ralph Beachy, both of Garnett; and several nieces and nephews.
