Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Carey died Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Delmar Gardens, Lenexa, KS. Louise E. Carey was born September 19, 1914, at Council Grove, KS, the daughter of Marvin and Leta Mae (Cottrell) Emmons. She was a member of First Christian Church, Garnett. Louise and Fred Carey were married May 22, 1936. Mrs. Carey was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Carey; and her parents, Marvin and Leta Mae Emmons. Louise is survived by her children, Gene Carey, Parma Heights, OH, and Freda L. Remmers, Califon, NJ; her brother, Marvin Emmons, Kansas City, KS; her sister, Virginia I. Peine, Shawnee, KS; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, is in charge of arrangements.” Page 3, Column 3: “Monica Catherine Lickteig 1906-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Monica Catherine (Bowman) Lickteig, 96, Richmond, KS, was Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, KS, with Father Emil Agostino and Father Norbert Lickteig officiating. Interment was in Scipio Cemetery, Scipio, KS. Monica Catherine Lickteig was born August 25, 1906, in Anderson County, KS, the daughter of Martin and Catherine (Hermreck) Bowman. She attended schools in the Scipio and Richmond area with her twin sister, Veronica, and worked as a clerk in the Roeckers Store in Richmond. Monica and Dan W. Lickteig were married at St. Boniface Church, Scipio, on April 29, 1930. They lived on their farm east of Richmond. Monica was a homemaker and cooked for the Richmond and Central Heights schools for many years. She was a member of St. Therese Parish and Altar Society, and was a former member of the Better Living EHU and Berea Club. She had lived at Richmond Care Center since 1996. Mrs. Lickteig was preceded in death by her husband, Dan W. Lickteig, on October 6, 1989; her son, Robert Lickteig, on November 21, 1991; her parents, Martin and Catherine Bowman; six brothers, Chris, John, Joe, Herman, Omer, and Martin; and seven sisters, Kate Mersman, Maggie Bowman, Mae Feuerborn, Theresa Feuerborn, Colette Mills, Leona Rockers, and twin sister, Veronica Lickteig. Monica is survived by her daughters, Coleen Hurley and her husband, Bill, Metairie, LA, and Joan Rockers and her husband, Mark, Garnett; her daughter-in-law, Arla Lickteig, Ottawa, KS; ten grandchildren, Lynna Raitinger, Lorna Belew, Lisa Douglas, Gary Chandler, Karen Cronkhite, Larry Chandler, Chris Rockers, Dan Rockers, Peg Mechnig, and Mary Blomquist; twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Monica loved life, spending time with her grandchildren, visiting, and playing cards with her friends. Her laughter will always be remembered. Music was provided by Iona Sobba, organist. Musical selections included “Be Not Afraid”, “On This Day”, “O Beautiful Mother”, “On Eagle’s Wings”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were Gary Chandler, Larry Chandler, Bob Cronkhite, Daniel Rockers, Chris Rockers, Rick Mechnig, Brian Blomquist, Lawrence Raitinger, Kent Belew, and Mike Douglas. A wake service was held at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2002. The family suggests memorial to the St. Therese Catholic Church, which may be left in care of the funeral home.
