Hastert 1913-2002 Mass of Christian Burial for Edith E. Hastert, 89, Garnett, was Monday, November 25, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Frs. George Matz and Tony Blaufuss officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery, Greeley, KS. Mrs. Hastert died Friday, November 22, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center. Monday would have been Mrs. Hastert’s seventy-second wedding anniversary. Edith E. Hastert was born February 5, 1913, at Elk Horn, IA, the daughter of Ole and Emma (Obrien) Olsen. She graduated from Elk Horn High School. She moved to Anderson County after her marriage. Edith was a cook at Anderson County Hospital for more than twenty years. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Holy Angels Altar Society, and JJJ Club. Edith and Christopher G. Hastert were married on November 25, 1930, at Panama, IA. Mrs. Hastert was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher G. Hastert, on January 23, 1992; a son, Robert Hastert, on March 3, 1971; one brother, Raymond Olsen; and one sister, Ellen Petersen. Edith is survived by two sons, Dale Hastert and Roger Hastert, both of Garnett; a daughter, Donna Behlau, Ottawa, KS; a sister Theresa Nissin, Atlantic, IA; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Sue Hardman, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included “Beyond the Sunset”, “How Great Thou Art”, “The Lord’s Prayer”, and “A New World Somewhere”. Casketbearers were Douglas Huffman, Dennis Huffman, Duane Hastert, Brad Hastert, Jay Weien, Jeff Weien, Bryan Hastert, and Steven Hastert. The family received friends after a Wake Service on Sunday, November 24, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett.
