Milward 1915-2002 Funeral services for James H. Milward, 87, Welda, KS, were Saturday, November 30, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Richard Landess officiating. Interment was in Welda Cemetery. Mr. Milward died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. James H. Milward was born January 10, 1915, at Rich Hill, MO, the son of James Howard and Maida (Daniel) Milward. He grew up in Missouri and graduated from high school in Columbus, KS. After serving in World War II with the United States Navy in the Philippine Island, he returned to Kansas, moving to Rantoul, KS, where he lived before moving to Welda in 1967. James was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Lane, KS. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved traveling and carving wooden birds, but his favorite hobby was being a dad and grandpa. Mr. Milward was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Turntine; his second wife, Alice Dryden; his parents, James Howard and Maida Milward; and his brother, Jack Milward, who died in World War II. James is survived by his daughter, Nancy Goudie and her husband, Don, Fontana, KS, and Linda Puckett and her husband, Douglas, Olathe, KS; three grandchildren, Melissa Goudie, Peculiar, MO, James Scott Goudie, Iwakuni, Japan, and Nicole Pickett, Olathe, KS; and one great-grandson, Nathan Boone, Peculiar, MO. Music was provided by Emily McDonnell, organist. Casketbearers were Dan Goudie, Nathan Boone, Melissa Goudie, Johnny Mundell, Douglas Puckett, and Nicole Puckett. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, KS. Mrs. Daugherty died Sunday, December 1, 2002, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS. Alice E. Daugherty was born January 21, 1943, at Bruner, MO. She grew up in Missouri. Alice and John W. Daugherty were married on February 15, 1969, at Omaha, NE. She made her home in Kansas City while he served in Vietnam. They later made their home at Tacoma, WA, and Phoenix, AZ, before Mr. Daugherty retired from the United States Air Force in 1976. They moved to Kincaid in 1981, after living in Kansas City for several years. Pat enjoyed reading and doing crafts. Mrs. Daugherty is survived by her husband, John W. Daugherty, of the home; her son, Darrin Daugherty and his wife, Karyn, Wathena, KS; her daughters, Honey Whitcomb and her husband, Roy, Kincaid, KS, and Keela Katzer and her husband, Tawn, Kansas City, MO; her brother, Robert Junior Wilson, Springfield, MO; her sisters, Imogene Ward and Edith Kelly, both of Springfield, MO; and five grandchildren. They family received friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2002, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Esther Clarica Weber was born November 25, 1910, at Iola, KS, the daughter of Androam and Nettie Corella (Honn) Demoret. She grew up in the Sugar Valley area of rural Anderson County. She moved to the Centerville area in 1938, living there until 1989 when she moved to the Parkside Place Apartments in Garnett. Esther was a member of the First Christian Church, Garnett. Esther and Melvin D. ‘Dale’ Weber were married June 29, 1935, at Garnett. This union was blessed with three sons. Mrs. Weber was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin D. Weber, on April 1, 1987; her parents, Androam and Nettie Demoret; four sisters; two brothers; and two step-grandchildren. Esther is survived by her sons, Charles Weber and his wife, Mary, Williamsburg, KS, Joseph Weber, Garnett, and Howard Weber, Ottawa, KS; her brother, Cassida Demoret, Vanceboro, NC; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and six step-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Rev. Gary Benjamin, soloist, who sang “In The Garden”. Casketbearers were Bill Teter, Leroy Teter, Randy Teter, James Teter, Mike Teter, and Donald Whitcomb. Cotter, 100, Kerrville, TX, formerly of Ottawa, KS, was Friday, November 29, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Fr. Steven Beseau officiating. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Emerald. Mrs. Cotter died Sunday, November 24, 2002, at Hilltop Village Nursing Home, Kerrville, TX. Stella M. Cotter was born March 7, 1902, at Olathe, KS, the daughter of Robert and Mary Ellen (Malloy) Efinger. When she was five years old, the family moved to the Emerald community, and at the time of her marriage, she moved to Harris, KS. She moved to Ottawa in 1925, to California in 1945, back to Ottawa in 1946, and then to Kerrville, TX, in 1994. Stella was a lifelong homemaker and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Stella and William A. Cotter were married in 1925. Together they owned and operated Cotter’s Grocery Store in Ottawa, first on East 11th Street from about 1925-1945, and then at 414 East Wilson from 1946-1966. Mrs. Cotter was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Cotter, on October 29, 1965; her parents, Robert and Mary Ellen Efinger; and her sister, Rose Keller. Stella is survived by her daughter, Rosellen Hodgson, Kerrville, TX; her granddaughters, Deborah Courtney, Wichita, KS, and Kim Wallace, Kerrville, TX; and her great-granddaughter, Andrea Courtney. Rosary was said on Thursday, November 28, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a family visitation.
