Day 1915-2002 Funeral services for Cecelia H. Day, 87, Princeton, KS, were Thursday, December 26, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, KS, with Father Steven Beseau officiating. Interment was in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Mrs. Day died December 20 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Cecelia H. Day was born April 7, 1915, at Axtell, KS, the daughter of William and Cecelia (Hazlett) Harkins. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School with the Class of 1933. She lived in the Johnson County area most of her life, living in Princeton, KS for the last five years. She was a homemaker and nurse’s aide at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in the 1950’s and 1960’s, followed by many years of factory work in the Kansas City area. Cecelia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. Cecelia and Claude Day were married at Leavenworth, KS, on September 7, 1945. Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, on December 3, 1973; two sons, Ernest Jack Day and William Louis Day; her parents, William and Cecelia Harkins; her sister, Esther Christianson; and her brothers, Charles Harkins, James Harkins, Dennis Harkins, Michael Harkins, John Harkins, and William Harkins. Cecelia is survived by her sons, Roy Day and Claude Day, Jr., both of Princeton, KS; her sisters, Janie Smith, Wellsville, KS, Aggie Wood, Colorado, and May Bly, Manhattan, KS; twenty-four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A Rosary was said on Thursday, December 26, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a family visitation until the service hour. Mrs. Wilper died Monday, December 23, at Allen County, Hospital, Iola, KS. Rose T. Wilper was born March 26, 1920, at Scipio, KS, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Peine) Nilges. She grew up in the Scipio area and lived her entire life in Anderson County. Rose Nilges and Omer Wilper were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Emerald, KS, on November 16, 1943. To this union five daughters were born. Omer and Rose farmed in the Harris area before moving to Westphalia in 1960. Mrs. Wilper was preceded in death by her husband, Omer; and infant daughter, Rose; her parents, Samuel and Mary Nilges; one brother, Joseph Nilges; and two sisters, Cecilia Seck and Agnes Bax. Rose is survived by four daughters, Alice Nolan and Edna Wilper, Westphalia, Shirley Bilyeu and her husband, Roy, Portland, OR, and Donna Burk and her husband, Larry, Kechi, KS; four brothers, Bernard Nilges, Iola, KS; Herman Nilges, Garnett, Fred Nilges, Emporia, KS, and Mark Nilges, LaHarpe, KS; nine grandchildren, Michelle Orsman and her husband, Matt, David, Paul, Kenneth, Michael, and James Burk, Marie Nolan, Robert Bilyeu and his wife, Shanna, and Jason Bilyeu; and two great-granddaughters, Sabrina Orsman and Megan Bilyeu. Myers officiating. Mr. Myers died December 20 at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Gardner, KS. Wesley F. Myers was born January 2, 1924, at Jerico Springs, MO, the son of John W. and Ruth V. (Armstrong) Myers. He moved to Garnett in 1985 from Kansas City, KS. He was a credit manager for an appliance distributor. Wesley was a veteran of the United States Army. Wesley and Deloris E. Lister were married June 23, 1944, at Little Rock, AR. Deloris died in 1963. Wesley and Jean (Bales) King were married October 27, 1967. Jean died in 1986. Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris, and his second wife, Jean; a sister, Janey Myers; and his parents, John and Ruth Myers. Wesley is survived by his sons, John W. Myers II, Kansas City, KS, and Timothy D. Myers, Mission Viejo, CA; his sisters, Loula Divine, Olathe, KS, and Helen Willis, Eaton, CO; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Lewis died Monday, December 23, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Fred M. Lewis was born August 29, 1931, at Marion, NC, the son of Keith and Jennie Smith. He grew up in Marion and joined the United States Air Force after high school, moving to Garnett after being discharged from the service. He retired in 1989 from Wiliams Natural Gas as Superintendent of the Welda facility. Fred and Shirley Baldridge were married at Garnett on September 15, 1951. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Jennie Smith. Fred is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; his sons, Tony Lewis and his wife, Randi, Houston, TX, and Terry Lewis and his wife, Cheryl, Eagle River, AK; his grandchildren, Cherylonda Perez, Gabriel Waznuk, Chelsea Lewis, Madison Lewis, Joe Lewis, Halee Lewis, and Hanna Lewis; and his great-grandson, Anthony Robert Perez. Kent Mathews officiating. Inurnment was Tuesday, December 31, at Memorial Park, Topeka, KS. Mrs. Schirmer died December 21, 2002, at Lyndon, KS. Sarah Brockman Schirmer was born September 2, 1949, at Olathe, KS, the daughter of Dr. S. Martin and Johnnie (Mann) Brockway. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1967, and from Emporia State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She had been a resident of Ottawa the past four years, moving from Topeka where she had lived from 1989 to 1998. From 1973 to 1989, she lived in Berryton, KS. Sarah was a lifelong homemaker. From 1990 to 1998, she taught the Multiple Needs Class at Topeka High School. From 1998 to present, she was a chiropractic assistant for Dr. John Brockway. Also since the early 1980’s to present, Sarah owned Pappy’s Plastics in Ottawa, making badges, and since 1991, owned and operated a square dance clothing shop in Topeka with the help of a friend, Elmer Hutton. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ottawa and several square dancing clubs in Topeka. On August 21, 1970, Sarah was united in marriage with Dana Schirmer. They later divorced. Mrs. Schirmer was preceded in death by her father, Dr. S. Martin Brockway; and her sister Kathryn Brockway. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Julie Schirmer, Carbondale, KS, and Renea Elliott, Ottawa, KS; her mother, Johnnie (Mann) Brockway, Ottawa; her brothers, Dr. John Brockway, Ottawa, KS, and James Brockway, Ames, IA; seven grandchildren, and special friend Elmer Hutton, Topeka, KS.
