Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Lloyd Ermon Sutton, Sr. was born April 14, 1913, in Anderson County, KS, the son of Roy A. and Margaret Jane (Smoot) Sutton. He lived all his life in the Garnett area, having to quit school at a young age to work and help support his brothers and sisters. Lloyd and Alberta Josephine Flores were married August 5, 1933, and enjoyed 70 years of marriage and happiness with the person he always loved and adored. In his younger years, Lloyd worked doing odd jobs, working at the bakery in Garnett and on the WPA. In 1943, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad and worked there 32 years before his retirement on June 27, 1975. He and Alberta spent several summers camping in Branson, MO, and attending the many shows. He especially enjoyed Box Car Willie. He was a gentle and loving husband and father, always caring for his family and constantly lending his help to his children in any way he could. His family was very important to him and he worked so very hard to support them. In May 2002, due to failing health, he made his home at Golden Heights Living Center. He joined his Saviour December 12, 2003, with his family by his side. This gentle, loving father will be truly missed by his family. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta, on October 7, 2003; his son, Vernon Eugene Sutton in 1976; his parents, Roy and Margaret Sutton; one great-grandchild, Ronald Tush, Jr.; and his sisters, Elsie Williams, Bessie Mae McCleary, and Imogene Gilpin. Lloyd is survived by his sons, Lloyd Sutton, Jr., Garnett, Dean Sutton and his wife, Lynne, Rantoul, KS, and Gerald Sutton and his wife Janell, Garnett; his daughters, Jacquelyn Hill and her husband Jim, Colony, KS, and Janice Meyer and her husband Edward, Garnett; his brothers, James Sutton, Independence, KS, and Charles Sutton, Iola, KS; his sister, Dorothy Burns, Garnett; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Paul Massey, organist, and Karen Revey, vocalist. Musical selections included “In The Garden”, “Precious Memories”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Casketbearers were Cord Culley, Charles Demmitt, John Hermreck, Glen Hermreck, Larry Katzer, and Melvin Kennard. Memorials may be made to Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Shirley Fern Merscham 1916-2003 Funeral services for Shirley Merscham, Richmond, KS, were Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at Richmond United Methodist Community Church with Rev. Michael McKee officiating. Interment was in Richmond Cemetery. Mrs. Merscham died December 13 at Anderson County Hospital. Shirley Fern Merscham was born May 11, 1916, at Chickasha, OK, the daughter of Rollie and Mattie (Glass) Lane. Her family moved to Mont Ida, KS, when she was a baby. She attended a country school in the Mont Ida area. Shirley was united in marriage to Rollie Merscham on May 23, 1936, at Paola, KS. The couple moved to Richmond in 1944, where Shirley lived in that same house in Richmond until she passed away. She was a homemaker and would babysit for others at her home. She was a member of the United Methodist Community Church, United Methodist Women, and the Scissors Club, all of Richmond. Mrs. Merscham was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie, on November 16, 1986; her daughter, Dale Eileen Merscham in 1972; her parents, Rollie and Mattie Lane; her brother, Charles lane; and her sister, Helen Boyer. Shirley is survived by her son, Bob Merscham and his wife Dana, Mountainburg, AR; her daughters, Shirley Ann Reeves, Richmond, KS, and Donna Stahl and her husband John, Williamsburg, KS; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Dorothy Duvall, organist, and Cathy Parsons, vocalist. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace”, “In The Garden”, and “One Day At A Time”. Casketbearers were Michael Walters, Cris Anderson, James A. Coy, Ralph Stover, Lenny Williams, and Lonnie McMahon. Honorary casketbearers were Ralph Merscham, Terry Walters, and Billy Walters. Memorial contributions may be made to Richmond United Methodist Community Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Mary Marie Maxey 1913-2003 Funeral services for Mary Marie (Dart) Maxey, 90, Edwardsville, KS, are Saturday, December 20, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Maxey died Monday, December 15, at Edwardsville Park Care Center. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and left in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.” “George Charles Lustig 1927-2003 George Charles Lustig, 76, Garnett, died December 2, 2003, at Anderson County Hospital. He was cremated and buried in his family’s plot in St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, NY. George Charles Lustig was born July 7, 1927, at New York, NY, the son of Jeremiah J. and Anna (Lyons) Lustig. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1951 and had lived in Kansas since 1952.
