(Bob) Coleman 1931-2003 Funeral services for Robert E. ‘Bob’ Coleman, 72, longtime San Antonio, TX, resident, were Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at San Pedro Presbyterian Church. Entombment was in Mission Burial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Coleman died November 21 in San Antonio. Robert E. (Bob) Coleman was born May 6, 1931, at Quincy, IL, the son of Fred L. and Beulah (Drybread) Coleman. He graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1949. Bob, as he was fondly known to his family and friends, served his country honorably and faithfully in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he was a communications officer aboard the U.S.S. Toledo based in the Pacific Ocean. Bob was the South Texas Division Manager of Comptrollers for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. He was a man of great faith and was an active longtime member of San Pedro Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities. Bob was a former member of the San Antonio Rotary Club, and was a member of the VIP’s of San Pedro Presbyterian Church. Mr. Coleman was preceded in his death by his parents, Fred and Beulah Coleman; and his brother, Claude Eugene Coleman. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Donna Rae Coleman; his sons, Douglas Robert Coleman and his wife, Cheryl, Denver, CO, and Kevin Ray Coleman and his wife, Karen, Converse, TX; his brother, John R. Coleman and his wife, Nancy, of Kansas; his grandchildren, Christopher Douglas Coleman and Brittany Leigh Coleman, both of Denver, CO, and Jessica Lynn Coleman, Converse, TX; and his great-granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Coleman, Denver, CO. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends. Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, San Antonio, TX, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “John Douglas Benton 1947-2003 Funeral services for John Douglas Benton, 56, Garnett, were Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Benton died Saturday, December 20, at Anderson County Hospital. John Douglas Benton was born August 25, 1947, at Stafford, KS, the son of Archie Bill and Irene (Kinkaid) Benton. He graduated from Stafford High School with the Class of 1965. He then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Business Education from Emporia State University in 1969 and a Master’s Degree from ESU in 1983. John and Joyce Anne Cramer were married June 1, 1968. Two children were born to this union, Angela Michelle Benton, born September 16, 1972, and William ‘Bill’ Jaye Benton, born June 3, 1975. John taught at Westphalia High School from 1969 to 1970, then at Garnett High School/Anderson County High School from 1970 until 2001, when he retired due to health reasons. He managed the Garnett Swimming Pool from 1993 until 1996, and was a part-time realtor for Pat Winfrey Realty from 2001 until his death. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett, where he served several years as Deacon, Sunday School Treasurer, and as Chairman of the Education Committee. He loved sports and coached both girls and boys summer ball for many years. Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his son, William “Bill” Jaye Benton, on October 19, 1993; and his father, Archie Bill Benton. John is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; his daughter Angela Wright and her husband, Leonard, Haysville, KS; his mother, Irene Benton, Hutchinson, KS; his sister, Linda Burkhart, Hutchinson, KS; his granddaughter, Larissa Maxine Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Travis Rockers, soloist. Casketbearers were Melvin Bauck, Bill Miller, Omer Rockers, Travis Rockers, Richard Wells, Paul Windsor, Bob Young, and Tim Young. The family received friends on Monday, December 22, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Thelma Pearl Barndt 1904-2003 Graveside services and interment for Thelma Pearl Brandt, 99, Wichita, Ks, were Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Garnett Cemetery with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Barndt died December 13, 2003, at Wichita. Thelma Pearl Barndt was born September 4, 1904, at Elkton, MO, the youngest daughter of John and Myrtle Brown. Thelma Pearl was married to George William Barndt on August 16, 1930, at Kansas City, Kansas. To this union was born one son, William George Barndt. Pearl, as she was known to family and friends, was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years serving as Worthy Matron in 1946. She was Noble Grand in Rebekah Lodge in 1949. Pearl taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Barndt was preceded in death by her husband, George William Barndt; her mother and father, Myrtle and John Brown; and two sisters. Pearl leaves to mourn her passing her son, William George Barndt and his wife, Etta Marie Barndt; three grandchildren, Robert Barndt, Wichita, Jonathan Barndt, Wichita and Kathryn Barndt Fiechtl, Wichita; and her three great-grandchildren, Zackery Fiechtl, Trevor Fiechtl and Austin Fiechtl.” “Correction: Due to a typographical error, the date of death for George Charles Lustig, 76, of Garnett, was wrong. Dale Edwin Anderson was born February 8, 1948, at Kansas City, MO, the son of Edward C. and Jessie May (Bailey) Anderson. He graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1966. Dale was a lifetime resident of Garnett, was involved in farming and agriculture, and was a musician. He was a member of First Christian Church of Garnett, BMI Writers Association, was the Midwest Regional Director of NARPO (National Association of Revisionary Property Owners), and the NRA (National Rifle Association). Dale and Gladys Gregg were married December 15, 1989, at Garnett. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his father, Edward C. Anderson. Dale is survived by his wife, Gladys, of the home; his son, Crispin Anderson, Williamsburg, KS; his step-son, Rodney Barnhart, Ottawa, KS; his step-daughter, Linda Griffin, Ottawa, KS; his mother, Jessie May Anderson, Garnett; his brother, Bill Anderson, Topeka, KS; his sister, Diana Warren, Lawrence, KS; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
