Mrs. Dieker died Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at First Community Village, Upper Arlington, OH.” “Harold Lee Stout 1922-2002 Funeral services for Harold Lee Stout, 80, Quenemo, KS, were Thursday, January 2, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Quenemo United Methodist Church. Interment was at Lone Elm Cemetery, Lone Elm, KS. Mr. Stout died December 28, 2002, at Lyndon Hilltop Assisted Living, Lyndon, KS. Harold Lee Stout was born July 2, 1922, on the family farm south of Lone Elm, KS, the son of Albert Washington and Mary Ellen ‘Ella’ (Carpenter) Stout. He was raised near Lone Elm, and had lived in Ozawkie, KS, until 1978 when he moved to Quenemo, where he lived since. Harold graduated from Lone Elm High School, Iola Junior College, and Kansas State University with a degree in Agronomy. He worked at the Garden City Experiment Station for three years, then returned to Lone Elm and farmed and taught GI On-the-Farm-Training. He was the Assistant Extension Agent in Lyndon for three years. He was the District Territory manager for PAG Seed Corn Company for fifteen years. In 1960, he built the Valley View Nursing Home in Valley Falls, KS. He worked on an addition for the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and was a troubleshooter for the Highland Park Bank at 29th and California in Topeka. He worked there until his complete retirement in 1985. Harold was a member of the Quenemo United Methodist Church and was a fifty-two year member of the Masonic Lodge. Harold and Elva Inez Smith were married April 22, 1945, at Lone Elm. She died in an auto accident on March 12, 1980. Harold then married Lara Nell Smoot Gragg on July 4, 1984, at Quenemo. Mr. Stout was preceded in death by his first wife, Elva Inez Stout; a son, Albert Ernest Stout, in August 1996; and a brother, Roy Stout. Harold is survived by his wife, Lara Nell Stout, of the home; his son, Philip Stout, Aurora, MO; his daughters, Barbara Smith, Topeka, KS, and Deborah Holliday, Eatonville, WA; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-sons; one step-daughter; two step-brothers; three step-sisters; eight step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Wednesday, January 1, 2003, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Feltner Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Quenemo United Methodist Church. Roeckers, 99, Garnett, passed away Friday, December 27, 2002, at Arkhaven Assisted Living Center. Hubert was born September 13, 1903, at Garnett, KS, to Joseph G. and Mary ‘Molly’ (Steinbach) Roeckers. He had lived in the Garnett area most of his life, most recently for the last three months as a resident of Arkhaven Residential Care Center. He attended Irving, Scipio, and Fairground schools in the Garnett area. Mr. Roeckers was a farmer in the Garnett area. After retiring from farming, he was a janitor at Garnett High School. His hobby was gardening. He enjoyed visiting with his family and traveling. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church of Garnett and the Knights of Columbus of Garnett. Hubert married Carrie Mae Citron on April 4, 1929, at Garnett. She died in 1957. He then married Beulah Eyman Hermreck on March 30, 1959. She survives him, residing at Arkhaven Assisted Living Center. Mr. Roeckers was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. and Mary ‘Molly’ Roeckers; four brothers, Leonard Roeckers, Frederick Roeckers, Joseph Roeckers, and Aloysius Roeckers; six sisters, Agnes Roeckers, Mary Ladish, Gertude Tait, Margaret Gibson, Elizabeth Roeckers, and Loretta DeBoe; his first wife, Carrie Mae; daughter-in-law, Lorene Roeckers; and step-son, Fred Hermreck. Hubert is survived by his wife, Beulah Roeckers, Garnett; two sons, Richard H. Roeckers and his wife, Shirley, Garnett, and Henry J. Roeckers and his wife, Ladonna ‘Kay’, Garnett; one step-son, Larry Hermreck and his wife, Almeda, Vera Beach, FL; two step-daughters, Barbara Burwell and her husband, Glen, Manhattan, KS, and Roberta Boyer and her husband, Eddie, Lawrence, KS; one step-daughter-in-law, Mickey Hermreck, Lawrence; two sisters, Justina ‘Tina’ Roeckers, Glendora, CA, and Matilda ‘Tillie’ Brummel, LaHabra, CA; seven grandchildren, fifteen step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, twenty-three step-great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, December 30, 2002, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett with Father George Matz and Father Tony Blaufuss as concelebrants. He was laid to rest in Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included ‘Beautiful Isle of Somewhere’ and ‘Amazing Grace’. Casketbearers were Michael Roeckers, Robin Roeckers, Ron Hager, Steve Boyer, Keith Boyer, and Travis Pittenger. Honorary casketbearers were Harley Gibson, Brant Hager, Eric Pittenger, Scott Hermreck, Jim Sardo, Rick Hager, James Thomas, and Jeff Volpert. A Wake Service was held Sunday evening, December 29, at 7:00 p.m. with family visitation following the service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contribution to Holy Angels Catholic Church for masses in the name of Hubert Roeckers, Holy Angels Catholic Church Building Fund, or Holy Angels Catholic School, which may be left in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 3, Column 3: “Rose Marie Sakaitis 1923-2002 Rose Marie Sakaitis, 79, Shawnee, Ks. died December 19, 2002, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, where she had resided the last few years. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS. Rose Marie (Dorais) Sakaitis was born September 4, 1923, at San Antonio, TX, to James and Lillian Dorais. Rose and Frank J. Sakaitis were married on October 9, 1943. They were parents to five daughters. Rose Marie fought a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. In her younger years, she helped the war effort by working at Bray Manufacturing making tents for the soldiers. After that, she worked at McDonnell Aircraft as riveter of covers for machine guns. She was a true ‘Rosie the Riveter’. She was a homemaker until 1962, when she began working for InterCollegiate Press. Rose Marie retired in 1986 as a supervisor after twenty-four years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS. She and Frank moved to Kansas from St. Louis, MO, in the late 1950’s. Mrs. Sakaitis was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1989; her grandson, Derek Cheek; her parents, James and Lillian Dorais; a brother, Jack Dorais; a sister, Peggy Boschert; and many other relatives. Rose Marie is survived by her five daughters, Lynn Westfall, Tulsa, OK, Karen Mann, Olathe, KS, Jacqulyn Cheek, Paola, KS, Mary Shehan, Prairie Village, KS, and Joan Simpson, Garnett, and their husbands; her sister, Teresa Dunn, Murrells Inlet, SC; twelve loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Rose was loved by all who knew her and she shared her special love with everyone she touched. She was a gentle woman with a kind spirit. May she now remember all the love bestowed on her. Mr. Johnson died December 27 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Charles B. Johnson was born March 23, 1937, at Mitchell, SD, the son of Charles B. and Thelma H. (Spratford) Johnson. He served with and retired from the United States Coast Guard. Charles and Rose Rippy were married May 26, 1962, at Hood River, OR. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Thelma H. Johnson. Charles is survived by his wife, Rose Johnson, Garnett; his sons, Stanley Johnson, Independence, MO, Charles Johnson, Portland, OR, Christopher Johnson, serving with the United States Army in Virginia, and Daniel A. Johnson, Garnett; his daughter, Cynthia Ware, Portland, OR; his brother, Ronald L. Johnson, Seattle, WA; his sisters, Patricia Hohbach, Mt. Vernon, SD, Bernette Williams, Chico, CA, Anita Geistlinger, Vancouver, WA, and Sharon M. Goetz, Portland, OR; and eight grandchildren.
