Gale E. Mack officiating. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS. V.F.W. Post 6397 and American Legion, Fuller-Thompson Post #48, Garnett, formed the military honor guard. Mr. Paxton died Thursday, March 13, at Anderson County Hospital. Dalton 'Dee' Paxton was born February 1, 1927, at Harness, AR, the son of Burlo and Vina (Redman) Paxton. He was raised in Arkansas by his grandparents, Jim and Martha Redman. He joined the Army Air Corp in March 1945, and was discharged on April 2, 1947, as a disabled veteran of World War II, serving in Japan. He moved to Iola, KS, in 1954, working for Wilson Hardware before purchasing the business and changing the name to Paxton Hardware. Following his time in the hardware business, he was an officer for the Iola Police Department. He retired from the City of Iola as Assistant Purchasing Agent. In 1990, Dalton and Janie moved to Lake Eufala, OK, where they lived until 2001, when they moved to Garnett. Dalton was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garnett, as well as the N.R.A. Dalton and Janie Walker were married September 19, 1948, at Independence, KS. Mr. Paxton was preceded in death by his parents, Burlo and Vina Paxton; his grandparents, Jim and Martha Redman; and one grandson, Andrew Head, in 1984. Dalton is survived by his wife, Janie, of the home; his son, Jim Paxton and his wife, Sandy, Arma, KS; his daughters, Cathy Spangler and her husband, Steve, Garnett, Dee Stuart, Minneapolis, MN, and Susan Powers and her husband, George, Pittsburg, KS; his step-brother, Rex Morrison, Littlefield, TX; eleven grandchildren and twelve great- grandchildren. Music was provided by Rev. Dennis Matthews, accompanist, and Bill Craig, vocalist. Musical selections included 'The Lord's Prayer', 'Great Is Thy Faithfulness', and 'My God and I'. Rev. Mack, saxophonist, and Rev. Matthews, pianist, played 'How Great Thou Art'. Casketbearers were Jeff Spangler, Jason Head, Paxton Powers, Dave Kepner, Dustin Stuart, Daren Stuart, Neal Smith, and Tim Guilfoyle. The family received friends on Sunday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Garnett. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." "Mary M. Peine Anderson 1919-2003 Funeral services for Mary M. Peine Anderson, 83, Garnett, are Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Interment is in Holy Angels Cemetery. Sommer, 81, Garnett, was Saturday, March 15, 2003, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, KS, with Father George Matz officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery with graveside military honors by VFW Post #6397, Garnett; American Legion, Fuller-Thompson Post #48, Garnett; and VFW Post #6887, Greeley. Mr. Sommer died Wednesday, March 12, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. John J. Sommer was born May 16, 1921, at Kansas City, MO, the son of Louis A. and Theresa (Schram) Sommer. He lived in Greeley until moving to Deer Park, TX, in 1971. He returned to Greeley in 1981 after retiring as a welder for Fluor Corporation of Paola, KS, and Deer Park, TX. John was a custodian at Greeley Elementary School from 1982- 1991. John and Viola moved to their current residence in Garnett in 1993. He served with the United States Army from April 1944-September 1946, in Germany and France during World War II. John was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett. He was also a member of the VFW, in Greeley and Garnett. John and Viola Mary Kipper were married August 24, 1943, at Scipio, KS. Mr. Sommer was preceded in death by his parents, Louis A. and Theresa Sommer; his brothers, Louis, Harry, Paul, and Richard Sommer; and his sister, Theresa Katzer. John is survived by his wife, Viola, of the home; his son, John L. Sommer and his friend Kathy Domanish, Ottawa, KS; his daughters, Marilyn Dykes and her husband, Kenneth, Olathe, KS, and Mary Jane Fields and her husband, Herman, Osawatomie, KS; his grandchildren, Brian Dykes and his wife, Sara, Daniel Karigan and his friend, Barbara Moore, Patrick Karigan and his wife, Jennifer, Kris Redding and her husband, Robert, Kim Sommer, and Chad Sommer, and his wife, Angie; his step-granddaughter, Sarah Trumbly and her husband, Donnie, five great-grandchildren and one step-great- grandchild; his brother, Leo Sommer, Greeley, KS; and his sisters, Anna Marie Kratzberg, Mary Rocker, and Margie Morgan, all of Greeley. Music was provided by Suzanne Toumberlin, violinist; Sue Hardman, organist; and Jane Lickteig, soloist. Musical selections included 'Be Not Afraid', 'In The Palm Of His Hands', and 'Let There Be Peace On Earth'. Casketbearers were Brian Dykes, Patrick Karigan, Paul Sommer, Daniel Karigan, Chad Sommer, and Joe Wolken. A Wake Service was held Friday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, with the family receiving friends after the service.
