Services were 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Olivet Baptist Church. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial was at 2:00 p.m., Thursday in the Welda Cemetery in Welda, Kansas. Viola Mae Brownrigg was born November 9, 1927, in Humboldt, TN to Wiley D. and Ethel Mae (Southerland) Dicus. She worked for City Union Mission for over thirty-two years before she retired. Mrs. Brownrigg was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Russell, Jr. and Billie Ray Russell; her parents, Wiley D. and Ethel Mae Dicus; and her sister Wilma Jean Neubert. Viola is survived by her husband, Charles A. Brownrigg of the home; a son, Charles Wayne Brownrigg; three brothers, James Dicus of Big Sandy, TN; Robert Dicus of Bruceton, TN, and Charles Dicus of Humboldt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olivet Baptist Church. George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements." Page 3, Column 3: "Elsie Louise Cobbs 1927-2003 Funeral services for Elsie Louise Cobbs, 75, Garnett, were Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, KS. Interment was in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound, KS. Mrs. Cobbs died Tuesday, March 18, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Elsie Louise Cobbs was born March 24, 1927, at Bush City, KS, the daughter of Charles A. and Ethel M. (Ferrill) Connor. She was a lifelong resident of Linn and Anderson Counties. Elsie graduated from Kincaid High School in 1945 as valedictorian of her class. After graduation from high school, she worked for the Kincaid bank for fifty years. She was a member of the Federated Church of Blue Mound, KS: a member of the Kansas Old Time Pickers and Fiddlers and served as secretary and treasurer for twenty- nine years; rode with the Cross Country Trail Riders for thirty-five years; and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Blue Mound Order of the Eastern Star. Elsie and Wayne Cobbs were married July 30, 1949. Mrs. Cobbs was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on December 14, 1999; her grandson, Casey Cobbs; and one brother, John Richard Connor. Elsie is survived by her sons, Eyman Cobbs and his wife, Phyllis, Garnett, and Dale Wayne Cobbs and his wife, Yvonne, Garnett; her sister, Edna Reives; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family greeted friends on Friday, March 21, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund or Shriner's Burn Center.
