Mrs. Bowman died Tuesday, April 29, at her home. Zelma Bowman was born February 27, 1928, at Garnett, KS, the daughter of Jesse G. and Mabel (Stutzman) Gibson. She lived in Lawrence for the past fifty-two years and worked for Hercules, Kansas Color Press, and the University of Kansas for many years. Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Omer A. Bowman; her parents, Jesse G. and Mabel Gibson; and her brothers, John and Jack Gibson. Zelma is survived by her sons, Michael Bowman and Roger L. Bowman, both of Lawrence, KS, and Omer A. Bowman, Jr., Overland park, KS; her daughters, Janice U. Casto, Meriden, KS, and Cathy M. Currant, Lawrence, KS; seven grandchildren; and her sisters, Thelma Wooster, Delores Landis, and Minnie Hooten, all of Vancouver, WA. Dana Jeanette Simpson was born June 24, 1969, at El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Wendell G. and Freda (Hansen) Mizer. She attended elementary school in Carbondale, KS, and high school in Liberty, MO. Dana had lived in Garnett for the past three years and was employed at Delphi Battery in Olathe. She was a member of Community of Christ Church. Ms. Simpson is survived by her sons, Terry Dale and Kevin, of the home; her daughters, Amber, Autum, and Tamara, of the home; her parents, Wendell and Freda Mizer, Auburn, KS, and her brother, Allen Mizer, Holt, MI. Musical selections included ‘Because You Loved Me’, ‘In The Garden’, and ‘I’ll Be Missing You’. Casketbearers were Gary Baley, Pat McGoyne, Allen Mizer, Wendell Mizer, Rob Simpson, and Travis Simpson. Honorary casketbearers were Danny Baley, Emery Barnes, Terry Dale, and Greg Dornes. Interment is in St. Teresa Cemetery. Mr. Dieker died Monday morning, May 5, at Windsor Place, Iola, KS. Francis William Dieker was born October 30, 1920, at Westphalia, KS, the son of Herman and Lovina (Plunkett) Dieker. He graduated from Westphalia High School in 1939. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps. Francis and Irene Amelia Frisch were married April 23, 1946, at Westphalia. They farmed for many years near Westphalia. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, where he served as a Lector for over thirty years and was a fifty-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of Coffey County Rural Water District #3 and served on the election board for Indian Creek Township for many years. He moved to a care center in Garnett two years ago and had been a resident of the Windsor Place in Iola for the past year. Mr. Dieker was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, on September 2, 1997; his parents, Herman and Lovina Dieker; his son-in-law, Edward Ray Sitz; twin infant grandsons, Russell and Keith Alderson; his brother, Wilfred Dieker; and his sister, Wilma Faber. Francis is survived by his son, Gary Dieker, Elizabethtown, KY; his daughter, Joyce Sitz, Wichita, KS, Cathy Alderson, DeSoto, KS, Sharon Olson, Belton, MO, and Rita Dieker, Westphalia, KS; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Tom Dieker, Westphalia, and Gerald Dieker, Strong City, KS; and his sisters, Betty Tastove, Westphalia, Alice Frisch, Sunnyvale, CA, and Lorene Altenbernd and Shirley Henderson, both of Lawrence, KS. A Rosary was recited on Thursday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the church, with the family receiving friends afterwards. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa Catholic Church. Mr. Schuster died Saturday, May 3, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS. Paul W. Schuster was born August 4, 1918, at Chanute, KS, the son of John B. and Mary LaVerne (Dawson) Schuster. He lived most of his life in Garnett. He served during World War II with the United States Navy. Paul was an independent producer and shooter of eastern Kansas oil wells and retired in 1983. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #6397, Garnett; a fifty-year member of Delphian Lodge #44, Garnett; a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Ft. Scott, KS; and was a member of Mirza Temple Shrine, Pittsburg, KS, and Elks Lodge, Osawatomie, KS. Paul was a pilot and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, tole painting, and tinkering around in his shop. Paul and Ruby Irene Spears were married March 7, 1942, at Chanute, KS. Mr. Schuster was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Mary LaVerne Schuster; three brothers and three sisters. Paul is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; his son, Paul ‘Pete’ Schuster and his wife, Sue, Larned, KS; his daughter, Barbara Ratliff and her husband, Bill, Ottawa, KS; his brothers, Charles Schuster, Lancaster, CA, and Mike Schuster, Aurora, CO; his sister, Margaret Zweiner, Orange, CA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Earl ‘Butch’ Rocker, vocalist. Musical selections included ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘How Great Thou Art’, and ‘Just A Closer Walk With Thee’. Casketbearers were Tom Ratliff, Josh Ratliff, Paul Wilson, Chuck Schuster, Mike Wilhelm, and Roger Brummel.
