Hunt 1915-2003 Funeral services for Marjorie M. Hunt, 87, Westphalia, KS, were Thursday, January 16, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Rev. Kenneth Davidson and Vernon Yoder officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Hunt died Monday, January 13, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Marjorie M. Hunt was born December 15, 1915, at Elmdale, KS, the daughter of Fred O. and Nettie Frances (Harder) Pracht. She grew up in the Elk community near Elmdale and graduated from Cottonwood Falls High School in 1936. She lived in Linconville, KS, before moving to Westphalia in 1942. Marjorie attended the former Cherry Mound Methodist Church and was currently attending the Mont Ida Church of the Brethren, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting antiques. Marjorie and Keith Hunt were married November 16, 1947, at Garnett. They shared their home with Larry White through his high school years and he has remained a lifelong friend to the couple. He currently lived in Tipton, KS, with his wife, Dorothy. Mrs. Hunt was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Hunt, on March 6, 1982; and her parents, Fred O. and Nettie Frances Pracht. Marjorie is survived by her brother, Wayne Pracht, Westphalia, KS; her sister, Merle Hawkins, Garnett; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family. Music was provided by Diane Ball, organist, and Ann Loewe and Judy Wiley, vocalists. Musical selections included ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘Just A Closer Walk With Thee’. Casketbearers were Bill Pracht, Fred Pracht, Bruce White, Dave Pracht, John Pracht, and Bryan White. A Prayer Service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, followed by family visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Mont Ida Church of the Brethren. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 3, Column 3: “Kenneth Glen Retter 1921-2003 Funeral services for Kenneth Glen Retter, 81, Lawrence, KS, were Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Interment was in Clinton Cemetery. Mr. Retter died Saturday, January 11, at his son’s home Kenneth Glen Retter was born July 10, 1921, at Westphalia, KS, the son of Russell C. and Mary Ethel (Williams) Retter. He grew up on a farm in Anderson County and went to serve his country in World War II with the Fourth Armored Division, United States Army. He served under General George S. Patton and was credited with participation in campaigns in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhine Land, and Ardennee. He served from June 1942, until October 1945. He was hospitalized several times and received the Purple Heart with Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and several medals. Kenneth and Juanita Osie Fisher were married December 31, 1945, at Kiro, KS. They made their home in Harris, KS, where they grew up, later moving to Lawrence in the 1950’s. They owned and operated Retters Quick Shop at 14th and Massachusetts for sixteen and one half years. Kenneth retired from Aeroquip in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harris, KS. Mr. Retter is survived by his wife, Juanita Retter, of the home; his sons, Jerry D. Retter and Ken E. Retter, both of Lawrence; his grandchildren, Ken E., Jr., Alisha, Monica, and Cassidy, all of Lawrence, and Branden D., Pleasant Hill, CA; and his great-grandchild, Cobin Cole, Lawrence. The family received friends on Tuesday, January 14, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association, or Hospice Care in Douglas County, which may be left in care of the funeral home.
