Interment was in Beagle Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Monday, July 21, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Wanda Irene Smith was born on a farm about three miles northeast of Lane, KS, on March 31, 1932, the first child born to Herman Dale and Odessa Mae (Hay) Edwards. She attended school at Clark Valley, Highland, Independence, and Osawatomie. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1949. Wanda and Donald Smith were united in marriage on March 24, 1950, at Beagle Methodist Church, Beagle, KS. They became the parents of five children. They made their home in and near Beagle until October 1958, when they moved to Olathe. In 1967, they moved to Houston, TX. Harvey, LA, was their next move in 1984. When Donald retired in 1987, they moved to Garnett. Wanda was extremely proud of her children and their choices of partners in marriage, and of her grandchildren. The family always had great fun at all their dinner celebrations, and get-togethers with cards and gameboard playing. Wanda’s walk of faith began with her parents, who took the family to church, first in the Friends Church and then they began going to the Methodist Church in Beagle when she was seven or eight years old. She enjoyed mission work and received several special recognition pins and certificates for church service. She was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garnett. She was also a member of the Rebekah’s from 1950 until moving to Olathe. She held several offices in the Rebekah’s including Noble Grand in the mid-1950’s. She was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School director, and had also been a member of the United Methodist Women, where she held the position of president and other offices. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Don Edward, who died in infancy; and her parents, Herman Dale and Odessa Mae Edwards. Wanda is survived by her husband, Donald, of the home; three sons and their wives, Richard Wayne and Kari Jayne, Garland, TX, Keith Leroy and Ginger Ann, Seabrook, TX, and Mark Alan and Velda Jean, Pocatello, ID; her daughter and her husband, Nancy Elizabeth and Charlie Meyer, Chapman, KS; eight grandchildren, Rachel and David Smith, Brandon and Jared Smith, Bryan and Kevin Smith, and Dylan and Garret Meyer; one brother, Loren Dale Edwards, Lane, KS; one sister, Loretta Diehm, Osawatomie, KS, and other relatives and friends. Music was provided by Joyce Hardesty, organist, and Bill Craig, soloist, who sang ‘Are Ye Able’ and ‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand’. ‘Old Rugged Cross’ was sung by the congregation. Casketbearers were Dale Lybarager, Earl Lizer, Jim Sobba, Eldon Pontius, Delton Hodgson, and Robert Umbarger. Honorary casketbearers were Dale Douglass, Clyde Merrill, and Dave Axtell. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Garnett or the Senior Citizens Center of Garnett. Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie, KS, was in charge of arrangements.” “John Jackson ‘Jack’ Carr 1913-2003 Funeral services for John Jackson ‘Jack’ Carr, 90, Garnett, were Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Kincaid Cemetery. Mr. Carr died Saturday, July 26, at Cherryvale Care Center, Cherryvale, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
