Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery. Mr. Hesse died Thursday, August 14, at Topeka, KS. Mrs. Manning died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at Golden Heights Living Center.” “Mildred B. Carnes McAdam 1910-2003 Funeral services for Mildred B. Carnes McAdam, 93, Moran, KS, were Saturday, August 16, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the Moran United Methodist Church. Interment was in Lone Elm Cemetery. Mrs. McAdam died Wednesday, August 13, at Moran Manor. Mildred B. Carnes McAdam was born March 23, 1910, on a farm east of Welda, KS, the daughter of Fred and Junie Carnes. She rode her pony to Welda School. Later, she moved near Lone Elm, KS, and graduated from Lone Elm High School in 1927. She attended Pittsburg College one year and taught school for one year near Westphalia. Mildred and John S. McAdam were married on February 23, 1941. They moved to the Rising Star community north of Moran in 1941, where she helped her husband with farming and his construction business. In 1966, they moved to Moran and due to the loss of John’s eyesight, she continued to help her husband in the construction and quarry business. Mildred was a very compassionate person, always helping others. She liked to sew, quilt, and embroidery, and taught many of her caregivers to do needlework in later years. She was a member of the Moran United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a charter member of the Home Culture Federated Club, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Morion Chapter 167 Order of the Eastern Star. Mildred was a former member of the GGG Club at Bayard, Home Extension Club, Allen County Historical Society, and was past Marmaton Township Republican Committeewoman. Mrs. McAdam was preceded in death by her husband, John S. McAdam, on July 9, 1991; two infant children; her parents, Fred and Junie Carnes; and her son-in-law, Earl Holloway. Mildred is survived by her sons, Billy D. McAdam and his wife, Nadine, John Thomas (Tom) McAdam and his wife, Bonnie, Moran, KS; her daughter, Karolyn K. Holloway, Bella Vista, AR, and Beverly J. Franklin and her husband, Jack, Iola, KS; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Geraldine Peatman, Mound City, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Mildred took great interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Friday, August 15, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Judy Brown officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery, with military graveside honors by American Legion Fuller-Thompson Post #48 and V.F.W. Post #6397. Mr. Reed died Tuesday, August 12, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka, KS. Leslie Daniel Reed was born July 17, 1953, at Garnett, KS, the son of Leslie Edward and Shirley (Kyle) Reed. He graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1972. He served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years and was a Sergeant in the Military Police. Dan had lived in Carbondale for the past ten years, where he formerly had been the Carbondale code enforcement officer. He had been disabled. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Edward Reed, on June 22, 1983; and his brother, Harvey Lee Reed. Dan is survived by his sons, John Daniel Reed, Hawaii, Daniel Gail Reed, Georgia, and Walter Allen Reed, Topeka, KS; his daughter, Machelle Reed, Georgia; his mother, Shirley M. Reed, Garnett; his brothers, Stephen Reed, Mildred, KS, and Neal L. Reed and his wife, Nancy, Sugar City, CO; his sisters, Shirley Kay Demaranville and her husband, Buddy, Garnett, and Phyllis Sweeney, Connecticut; two grandchildren; his grandmother, Irean B. Kyle, Garnett; and nine nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Pam McSwane, pianist, and Betty Demaranville, Nelda Tawney, Harriet Kellerman, and Sharon Warbritton vocalists. Musical selections included ‘In The Garden’, ‘Old Rugged Cross’, ‘Amazing Grace’, and ‘Peace In The Valley’. Casketbearers were David Chamberlain, James Kyle, Rick Needham, Buddy Demaranville, Vernon Kyle, and Shawn Reed. Graveside burial services were held at 11:15 a.m. at Kincaid Cemetery. Mr. Woolery died Wednesday, August 13, at Arkhaven Residential Care, Iola. Richard H. Woolery was born June 23, 1944, at Iola, KS, the son of Richard S. ‘Dick’ and Maxine C. (Hayes) Woolery. He grew up in Kincaid and graduated from Kincaid High School in 1962. He graduated from Iola Junior College and was a graduate student at Pittsburg State University, receiving his degree in chemistry. He farmed near Kincaid until recently when his health failed. He was an active supporter of the Iola AA group for the past eleven years. Mr. Woolery was preceded in death by his father, Richard S. Woolery. Richard is survived by his mother, Maxine Woolery, Iola, KS; his sister, Derexa Seth and her husband, Laryl, White City, KS; and his nephew, Jaryl Seth and his wife, Stephanie, Silver Lake, KS.
