Seeber 1925-2003 Graveside services and interment for Calvin E. Seeber, 78, Iola, KS, were Saturday, August 23, 2003, at the Kincaid Cemetery with Lloyd Houk officiating. Military honors were presented by the Honor Guard of the Naval Reserve Center of Kansas City, MO, and the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Mr. Seeber died Wednesday evening, August 20, at Allen County Hospital, Iola, KS. Calvin E. Seeber was born January 10, 1925, at Opolis, KS, the son of Hosea A. and Jessie (Berry) Seeber. While Calvin was young, the family moved to a farm in the Oronogo, MO, area. There he attended public school and completed the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm and also worked for neighboring farmers until the age of eighteen. Calvin served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He saw action in several areas of the Pacific Theater. After the war, Calvin was united in marriage to Viola Gibson on March 26, 1946. They moved to Iola and that marriage was blessed with five children. Calvin and Viola were later divorced. On April 29, 1983, Calvin married Esther Polly and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2003. Calvin worked for twenty-one years for Lehigh Cement Company until they closed. He retired from Klein Tools, Inc. in 1987, being with that company for ten years. He was a life member of the LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars and the LaHarpe American Legion, and was a member of the Kincaid Lions Club. Mr. Seeber was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his son, Calvin E. Seeber, Jr.; his granddaughter, Lucinda Seeber; his parents, Hosea and Jessie Seeber; his sisters, Erma Williams, Blanche Reniker, and Mary Gibby; and his brothers; Wilbur Seeber and Raymond Seeber. Calvin is survived by his sons, Charles Seeber, Burlison, TN, Gary Wayne Seeber, St. Peters, MO, and Ronald Dean Seeber, Iola, KS; his daughters, Dorothy Mae Turner, Gainsville, MO, and Teresa Raygoza, Aloha, OR; two stepdaughters, Jackie Riley and Shirley Pippin, both of California; his sisters, Ada Mannes, Leon, KS, Mae Paxson, Iola, KS, and Midge Ansell, Iola, KS; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Friday, August 22, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary. Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary of Moran, KS, was in charge of arrangements.” “Hallie T. Borth 1920-2003 Hallie T. Borth, 82, formerly of Fort Scott, KS, and more recently of Fallbrook, CA, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, in California. Hallie was born in Sweetwater, TN, on September 2, 1920, the daughter of Raymond Lewis and Alma Coffee Halliburton Thompson. She married Carl Freeman Borth on June 13, 1957, in Sweetwater, TN. In college, Ms. Borth receive a master’s degree. She served as librarian in the Fort Scott public schools until her retirement. She was a member of A.A.U.W., Delta Kamma Gamma, Retired Teachers, D.A.R., and the Pierian Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Scott. Ms. Borth was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman; and her parents, Raymond and Alma Thompson. Hallie is survived by her daughter, Carol Skinner, Fallbrook, CA, and Mary Dobson, O’Fallon, MO; and four grandchildren. She was the sister-in-law of Dorothy (Borth) O’Malley, Andover, KS, and Ruby Elaine (Borth) Weiss, Garnett.” Page 5, Column 3: “Glenn Caldwell, Sr. 1917-2003 Memorial services for Glenn Caldwell, Sr., 86, Garnett, were Monday, August 25, 2003, at 9:00 a.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Masonic services were held following the service at the church. Mr. Caldwell died Wednesday, August 20. Glenn Caldwell, Sr., was born August 5, 1917, at Garnett, KS, the son of Gilmon Clinton and Ella Catherine (Gray) Caldwell. He was a lifetime resident of Garnett. Glenn was a fifty-one year member of First Christian Church, where he was a Deacon and Elder, also serving for many years on several boards and committees, including the Church Board where he was Chairman for nine years, Building and Grounds Committee and Finance Committee, and was named Elder Emeritus on November 28, 1999, Delphian Lodge #44, Garnett, Scottish Rite (32nd Degree), Fort Scott, KS, and Mirza Temple, Pittsburg, KS. In 1969, he was responsible for the construction of the U.S.D.A. Building and A&P Store. Glenn and Genevieve Klages were married on November 18, 1939, in Oklahoma. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his parents, Gilmon Clinton and Ella Catherine Caldwell; and his sister, Marie Allen. Glenn is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of the home; his son, Glenn A. Caldwell, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Garnett; his daughter, Glenda Scheuermann and her husband, Ray, Henderson, NV; his grandchildren, H.R. ‘Trey’ Scheuermann and his wife, Diane, Mary Snyder and her husband, Jack, Susan Scheuermann and her fiancée Baron Schlegel, Jeremy Caldwell and his fiancée Stephanie Barnaby, and Matt Caldwell and his wife Rachel; his great-grandchildren, Hilary and Alyse Scheuermann and Aaron and Audrey Oestreicher; and his sisters, Betty Tilton, Garnett, and Mary Wharton, Pensacola, FL. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Scott Schulte, vocalist. Musical selections included ‘In The Garden’, ‘I Don’t Know About Tomorrow’, and ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ as the congregational hymn. The family received friends on Sunday, August 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital.
