When she was twelve years of age, her family moved to Arkansas, between Gravett and Decater. There they operated a fruit and vegetable farm for one year before returning to the LaHarpe area. She loved all animals and really enjoyed watching the deer every morning and evening. Her life evolved around family. Mae was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. After her husband Harold passed away, she and her daughter, Betty, became very active in crafts. She enjoyed all crafts and was extremely talented. As a seamstress, she had several creations that were worn by country western music stars, including Roy Clark on the TV show ‘Hee Haw’. Mae never met a stranger and especially enjoyed children. Many children who are now adults can and do share wonderful memories of the great fun and scary times they had while under the care of the lady they all called ‘Grandma’.
